Paula Deen…The Saga Continues

I really didn’t see myself writing another blog about Paula Deen. Had hoped that it would settle down and sort of melt away into the background as people can be distracted by the next shiny new item dangled in front of them…like Demi Moore having her life cracked open by 911 calls being released. To my dismay, the Paula Deen Saga continues. Her publicist quit, who is probably as much to blame for how this rolled out. The latest is having video of her eating a cheeseburger on a cruise ship that was recorded by another passenger and the NYSC gym center taking out an advertisement calling her fat.

How would we feel being videoed eating…on a cruise? Talk about the food police! How much more are we to stand for? Somehow I must have missed the memo that say that since I am a diabetic, I am NEVER allowed to have any foods that aren’t a fruit, vegetable, or poached…or whatever the hell they think a diabetic is suppose to eat and when they can have it.

I want to say this publically: WHOEVER took that video should be ashamed of themselves. And as for the NYSC gyms, I hope that every diabetic or overweight person doesn’t renew his or her membership. They are underserving of their dollars.

I've heard how the discussions about Paula Deen have been going here on the boards. All I can say is people should just back off. It sounds like the food police and jealous people attacking her. Her show is about cooking tastey food for regular people, not diabetics. Not many folks would have gone to a show that featured only cooking for a diabetic. Like she has said, she eats that way in moderation and thats the key here. The food police want people with diabetes to eat only and certain way and thats not truthfull. Hate that stuff. Its not neccessary. My husband has had diabetes for almost 30 yrs. I only have had to adjust our meals a little. Snacks are not something we have much, and soda is not something we have often either. He has done well in all this time. It wasn't hard at all like folks would have you believe...

Thought for the day:

The very purpose of spirituality is self-discipline. Rather than criticizing others, we should evaluate and criticize ourselves. Ask yourself, what am I doing about my anger, my attachment, my pride, my jealousy? These are the things we should check in our day to day lives. --HHDL
