So the last 2-3 days I noticed that my PDM seemed to be on all the time…and it was. I ran through just under a set of batteries per day. I called Insulet this morning and they are fedexing a replacement to me. Quick, easy, no hassle.
I just wanted to share the positive experience with Insulet with folks.
Anyone else have this behavior? I’m wondering if it is correctable or simply better to swap out the old for the new.
Re-programming the settings is really the only part I stress a bit about (only a little). It should be quick and easy, but I always harbor a hint of doubt when changing settings that affect the insulin flow I have the settings backed up of course in Copilot so it should be a no brainer. Still a" newlypod" here as I’m only about 2 months into using a pump/pod.
They didn’t try to trouble shoot it actually. They just asked a few basic questions about when it started and such. They automatically are FedEx-ing it so it will arrive tomorrow (not sure if it is a morning delivery or just tomorrow, but either is fine by me).
I hadn’t thought to ask them if it was a known issue. All this was pre-coffee. Heck, I’m lucky I can dial the phone some days before coffee!
If they didn’t ask you a ton of questions then it’s probably something they’ve seen before. But they are really good about replacing any PDM that is displaying a serious concern. They don’t want your PDM to malfunction 'cause it would mean a possible lawsuit if you ended up with an insulin over/under dose. They really are on our side as much as their finances allow them to be!
There is a setting in the pdm for the amount of time it stays on… maybe that got set some how to make it stay on… I have my son’s go off in 30 seconds.
What the PDM is actually doing is reaching the timeout and turning off and then instantly turning itself back on and then waiting for the set timeout period and then repeating that cycle over and over.
Question: does the Copilot merge/keep the old data and just start using the new PDM or does it act like a totally different user because the PDM has a different serial number?
I had the same problem 2 weeks ago, and it was while I was overseas. The strips also stopped working in it, and I had no back up meter (I know, bad - luckily I had the Dexcom on). I packed on batteries (changing them 1-2 a day), and was ready to call as soon as I got home.
Funny thing is, when I got home it went back to normal!
I was wondering if the high temperature/humidity conditions might have affected. I was often out and in places with no A/C, so maybe returning to regular temperatures “fixed” it? Just wondering if when it started acting weird with you you might have stressed the PDM in the same way.
Interesting. It’s been damp here lately, but that happens periodically. Replacement is doing find so far. I imagine it’d be a tad unsettling if it happened overseas. Yikes!
