Problems with PDM

I have the "new" PDM. Within the past month, I've started to have problems with it. It just goes out. This morning, after putting new batteries in yesterday, when I put the test strip in, it went out,

Batteries have not been lasting as long either. I finally called Insulet this morning. They will be sending me a replacement PDM by Saturday and they will help me program it....

I am glad I finally called!

PS...I got it last May

You are not the only one, Dee. There has been alot of discussion on this. It seems that Insulet recognizes that there is a problem and is being responsive. Maybe just normal glitches in a new product. Good luck.

As Elaine said, “You are not the only one” who has experienced this. My 2nd generation PDM began to do the same thing yours did and I also was sent a replacement. That one lasted over 6 months and then last Sunday I had 3 pods fail during priming. So Insulet set me another one which seems to be working just fine so far. The reprogramming is not so bad. Good Luck to you.

I have only had one pod fail to prime and that was when I first started with the Omni Pods , about 8-9 months ago. Programing the new PDM was not difficult. I had a great gal from Insulet helping me.
I also like the service. I had called on Friday morning to “complain” and by Sat. morning I had my new PDM ! I thought that was excellent!

When they send you a new PDM…do you get to keep the old one?

I got a replacement and had to return the one I had. Dee, what batteries are you using? I was having the same sorts of problems as you and was using Duracell Alkaline. Customer support suggested Energizers. They are slightly longer (I checked it out with a calipers), and they make better contact with the conductors in the battery compartment. I haven’t had a problem since.

Thanks Jim…I’ve had 2 more PDM replacements since that one…THIS one seems to be "mostly OK"
I’ve been using Duracells…Customer support never mentioned using any other brand…
It wasn’t the batteries that were the problem, the PDM just started acting strange…
Hopefully. this one will be fine…

How many PDMs have you had replaced? My 4th one quit suddenly in the middle of a bolus - put in new batteries - just would not work - pressed the reset button in the battery compartment with new batteries - nothing. So they sent me #5 :frowning:

My son is on #1 but it has failed 2 times…the second time we thought it was toast… I went back about an 1/2 hr later…and rest it again…this time leaving the battery in while pressing the button and it worked.
They are sending a new one tomorrow afternoon. I can keep him on this one…now that it is working till the end of the 3 days if it lasts… I hope it does… he has had one rip off… one pdm fail and now a new one on so that is 3 in as many days. He has only been on the pod since April.

Maybe 4 or 5…I’ve lost count. The one I have now seems to be working well enough, It just doesn’t always recognize the pod unless I bring it up very close…Other than that, …well, I’ve noticed I have to keep taking out the batteries and putting them back in …
We’ve been traveling for the past 2+ months in Canada, so I am happy I’ve had no major problems…Now in the States, should be back home in 3 weeks…I will call insulet when I get home and check this out.

My son said he’d go MDI before he ever went to a tubed pump so I guess…we just deal w/ what ever we have to…much better than MDI for him at least.
