Pods falling off solution

Hello everybody! My name is Thomas and as a part of a class at Iowa State University I am developing a new product, this product being a type of tape patch that would help keep pods from falling off during physical activity or just during day to day stuff.

I myself do not have diabetes but my brother and other family members do, as well as a lot of my close friends. They have all had this issue, and no current solutions have helped them solve it. I’m sure many of you are aware of this problem, I’d like to know if anyone has any thoughts on this, or if anyone would be willing to share ideas maybe on a survey in the future that would help move the development for this product along. This is for a class so its not something i’ll be able to drop all of a sudden haha, this is going to get done. Just a question of whether or not it’ll develop into a product seen on amazon or sold on a website. Anyways, let me know your thoughts.

I knock them off way more often than they fall off. I use IV Prep underneath (which is sticky) and I sometimes tape a wayward edge down with a sliver of medical tape. Yesterday I yanked on an Omnipod for five minutes tugging to get it off. Even using my hot tub doesn’t result in a lost pod. Now I’m not an athlete but I do live in a very hot dry area so… I do think having something more affordable and practical than medical tape would be nice.

My pump and sensors come off easily from exercise
I use iv 3000 tape under the device and poke through it.
It then has a much larger stable area and doesn’t move as much and the iv3000 is waterproof and sweat proof. I never had one come off. But a pump or pod is only on 3 days so it’s usually not much of an issue, but sensors are on 10 which is problematic, but I use the same method with success most of the time.

I have no options for swimming as everything I have tried comes off when swimming. I’ll only swim on my last sensor day so I won’t care if it comes off

Hi Thomas, welcome to the community! Certainly a problem all of us would welcome a better solution to. I’m not an Omnipod user (Tandem CIQ for me) but I do use a couple of things for keeping sensors on, and it’s essentially the same problem. I apply SkinTac adhesive before insertion and HonYou (aka Lexcam) overpatches after the original sensor adhesive inevitably starts to peal up, like day three or so. That enhances the chance the overpatch will last to the end of the 10-day session, at which point the overpatch is starting to go as well. It’s a real moving target though, because you want something that will cling on like a lamprey through sweat and flexing and whatnot but not tear off a whole layer of skin when it comes off.

I’m also one of the Moderators here, so just a heads up that surveys need to be cleared by admin before posting.

Sounds like a worthwhile project, wishing you great success!
