Ok so i may be pregnant. im 36 years old with typ 1 diabetes. this will be my 2 child. here is my question. have any of you ever been preg at 36 with typ one ? or is anyone here going through being preggos at 36. just wannting to know how you did or how you are doing. my first was not bad. i have had typ one for over 20 something years.
How is everything going?
I’ve never been pregnant, have had T1D for 11 years, and definitely want to have children!
I think you are pregnant at a really good age. I am T2 and have 3 children my pregnancies were really ruff though. Two of them was when I was a teen. My third was at a normal age and I did so much better than when I was a teen. Of course my babies was really big also. My third child is 4 and when he was born he weighed 10 lbs and 15 oz. Good luck and don’t worry so much. Congradulations!!!
Well I’m not 36 yet (have a little more than 7 years to go…) but I’ve had 3 type 1 pregnancies… I’d worry more about your BG control than your age… was your last A1C really 17 as it says on your profile?
Brazshell,
I looked on your profile and it said your A1C was 17. Is that a typo? If that is correct, you’re going to have to get your blood sugars under control immediately. Type 1’s can have very successful pregnancies but your blood sugars have to be under good control. I don’t know what is realistic for you, but you want an A1C under 7.0 (preferably under 6.5). The likelihood of a successful pregnancy with extremely high blood sugars is slim at best. I’ve known several type 1 women who have miscarried because of poor control. Pregnancy can make good control very difficult; it’s a tough situation. Please talk to your Doctor.
I just had a little girl and I am 32. I kept my a1c in the 5 range with the help of my insulin pump. She was born 6 weeks early but is healthy. She is 12 weeks now.
I am almost 37 and TTC my first baby. have had Type 1 for almost 30 years.
All docs I’ve spoken with say that BG control is key in having a successful pregnancy at any age. You need to make an appointment with your doc right away. Did you see a high risk doc with your first?
We have a pregnancy related group, Oh Baby. I hope that you can find some support there!
