Pregnant Diabetic wondering about Diet

I am a Type 1 Diabetic who is currently 8 weeks pregnant. In the beginning I found that I could still eat carbs (albeit a really low amount) and my old insulin ratios worked. Now, if I eat anything over 12 grams my blood sugars spike. I have compensated this by not eating too many carbs per meal and by having a mostly protein diet. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience? If so, did you have to drastically reduce your carb intake? Did it have an adverse effect on your baby? Any advice would be great.

Hi there. I’m going through the same thing. The day I found out I basically starved myself to avoid any highs. First thing my endo did was increase my basal. Sounds like you need a basal adjustment which is expected and frequent during pregnancy.

As far as low carb diets go, I find protein snacks to be a good replacement. I’ve also watched a some “what I eat in a day” videos online which are quite helpful.

Hope it works well for you.
