Pros and Cons?

Considering getting this new t slim pump but before I make the switch from my Medtronic pump to this pump I would like some input on it. I like how this one would be touch screen and a rechargeable battery but just wondering if the screen gets too scratched and just overall if you would recommend the switch or not. I also have an almost two year old and a baby on the way so just wondering how durable it is. Thanks!

Hi Kels. My son is 10 and got the tslim in November. The pump itself is great. Very small, light weight and extremely user friendly. Sadly we had to take him off this week because he was having issues but I believe they are infusion set related. Kids at school kept telling him what a cool phone it was  Anyway, he was able to use it himself no problems. Changing the cartridge and filling the tubing takes time. Maybe 10 minutes start to finish but other than that he never had problems. The screen is easy to read and very easy to use. And he never had issues with scratching it. We don’t have any experience with a Medtronic so I can’t compare for you but we do like the tslim. Now we need to figure out why his numbers were so bad so we can get him back on it. Hopefully when we get the slanted sets things will be better and we can switch back from the MDI. Good luck on your pump and congrats on the new baby

Hi…I’ve been using the t:slim for over a year. I transitioned from the OmniPod. I love this pump! The pump comes with a factory installed screen protector. As far as durability goes, Tandem put the pump through the ultimate test when they had a group of youngsters attending a diabetes camp try to deliberately damage or destroy the pump. They finally succeeded in cracking the screen when two pumps were launched toward each other. By the way, the pump was still functional. My A1c dropped from 7.2 to 5.7!!!

I’ve got the switch out time down to approximately 5 min. I have all of my supplies in zip lock sandwich bags. I also use Animas Insets straight in 6mm/23".

I’ve been on the T-slim for five months now. LOVE it! This is my first pump so I really can’t compare to others. But I am a very active person, travel a lot with work, chase a 12 year old and am very hard on my phone/cases. My two month old phone case looks like it’s 2 years old at least and my T-slim still looks brand new. Super quick to give meal bolus’ and looks like a phone so it doesn’t create any odd stares. I would highly recommend it. Easy to learn and use too!

I also transitioned from OmniPod. Medtronic before that. The t:slim is easy to use and very durable. Tandem is a solid company with a bright future.
