I’m searching as well. Something that is low carb and gluten free. Honestly to tell you the truth, if I’m going to do some exercising, a little sugar isn’t going to hurt… I’m going to go low anyway.
Well, EAS makes a low carb shake with 17 grams of protein. That’s less than half the protein of their high carb Myoplex shake. Could you choke down a hard boiled egg or some cottage cheese in the morning? Or are you Vegan? It’s pretty easy to eat enough protein if you’re an omnivore.
Most bang for your buck is at Costco - EAS Premium Protein (Chocolate or Vanilla) You can get a 6lb bag for like $30, which is unheard of for a quality protein supplement.
My personal choice because I like whey protein is Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein (Vanilla Ice Cream).
Both very low carb, both taste decent enough.
I really like NOW brand unflavored whey protein isolate powder. It dissolves easily, has 1 or 2 carbs per scoop. Stay away from soy since many diabetics also have thyroid problems. If you use whey, isolate is the better form (not hydrolyzed).
I get unflavored so I can add flavoring & also can add to soups & use for baking.
Does any one know which whey shake is less sweet ? I bought the EAS low carb whey prot. powder / vanilla ; I cannot drink it as it is disgustingly sweet!
Is there anything that tastes better ?
I am mixing 1 scoop with approx. 1 glass of water. It tastes too sweet ; and not enough concentrated…(too much water for the powder )
Go to www.proteinfactory.com and select from a very wide variety of different types of protein. They are all customizable as well as far as additives like vitamins and minerals, flavors, and which sweetener, if any, you want to use. The CFM Whey Isolate has 0 carbs and virtually 0 cholesterol. It is my #1 choice.
