Pump and aqua therapy

So my pain specialist is wanting me to me aqua therapy. My only question is my pump. Is the infusion set ok in the pool? I know I'll have to suspend the pump. I never had this type of therapy so I ama bit nervous. So any suggestions about how to handle my pump (well once I am back on it which will be september 5th hopefully) so I can get through the month time that is set for?

thanks!

Do not worry. I swim daily for exercise and I'm an avid boater/sailor that sometimes is more in the water than out on the weekends in the summer.
I never had a problem with an inset coming loose (now the CGM transmitter is another story) don't worry jump in the pool and do your therapy it is no different than taking a long shower or bath.
Watch your BG levels as sometimes you don't want to suspend maybe just have a temp basal for the duration.
Your Animas 2020 or Ping is water proof so you can tuck it in your bathing suit. I've been to 40ft deep and it doesn't leak.

I wrote the same question in the dexcom group as well SO I can wear the pump without covering it? I have one of those purple protector if I call it that. I never been in a pool with my pump so far. I worry that water will get in somehow!

Why suspend at all? The pump is waterproof and there are fewer issues with the infusion set when you keep insulin flowing. :). My advice would be to keep on pumping and just go on a reduced basal if you need to! No worries.

I agree, don’t take it off if you don’t need to. I swim with my ping quite a bit and it doesn’t miss a beat.

The Animas is completely waterproof. I have been as many as four times a week in a pool. I never suspend the pump. I often check my BG half way thru the class. But you could also do a temp basal lowering (check with someone knowledgeable about how much and how long).
I even go in a hot tub and the infusion set is okay. I do remove the pump because of hot water. And yes---I do also have a Dexcom transmitter on. The rep told me that I could go in a hot tub but that the reading might be 'wacked' for awhile.

Double check that the reservoir retainer and battery cap are both screwed on tightly. In fact, I would unscrew the battery cap and make sure that there is no debris (pocket flotsam and jetsam) that could impede the o-ring from making a water-tight seal. If you do that, you'll probably have do a rewind, however : /

Thanks guys...This is the first time I am using my pump into a pool, etc. Yes you read that right. I know if I get in my aqua therapy before Sept 5th I wont have my pump on yet (I had a DKA last month and was told not to use the pump until I see my nurse again and for me to do shots for now).

I always wear my pump when I swim. I lower my basal rate since I normally swim hard for an hour to an hour and a half. I the one thing special i do is to use skin prep when inserting my infusion set so it will stick tighter. I've never had it come off when I use skin prep but it often does when I don't.

is that the IV prep stuff? I was re-organzing my diabetes cabinet so it looks a bit well more organized...I know what the uni-solve is which helps to remove extra stuff...I even used them when I had the heart leads on me and kept finding more LOL...hey it worked!

I am so nervous about being in the pool with one. I never done this before! I guess there is always a first

Yea you have Uni-Solve for cleaning, Skip-Prep or IV-Prep for the little extra adhesion, or I use Mastisol for excellent adhesion (sometimes too good)
Amy what does Nike say "Just Do It" use IV/Skin Prep turn basal rate down a little and dive in.

As I understand it IV prep is like Skin prep except that it also has alcohol in it. I've always just used skin prep since I'm already opening an alcohol swab to clean the top of my insulin vial.
