While changing out my battery for the first time in my ping, the pump threw this code :Call Animas 052-0000. I called them and they said that they pump goes through several safety checks every minute and that somewhere between changing the battery and rewinding the pump it recognized something “not right” I had to take out the battery and start the rewind again. Once I got the pump rewinded and put a new cartridge in I hit the “load cart” button. In the middle of that the pump threw the code again and I had to repeat all the steps again. On the third try everything worked the way it was supposed to and the lady I was talking to at Animas said it was nothing to worry about unless it throws that code several times a month. I’ve only been pumping for a month now and I am not sure if I should be concerned about this or not. Any suggestions or advice? Ever had this happen to you before? I guess I’m just looking for some peace of mind. Thanks in Advanced!
I agree, pump is a month old. I haven’t had a problem since around 11:30 AM. I guess I will just watch it closely over the next couple of days and make sure it doesn’t do anything too crazy.
It was a few years ago but I had a similar situation. It happened after I had been pumping with my older Animus 2020 unit for a couple of months. I called Animas tech support, they had me check a couple of things and told me the same thing. It never happened again. I wouldn’t worry about it unless it comes back.
In 4 years of pumping I have had this happen about 10 times, mostly different codes. The last time was over 6 months ago. They seem to come in batches 2 or 3 a few weeks apart & then nothing for months. The 1st time is alarming but basically if you just do what the Animas rep said disconnect & remove/replace the battery it will clear. Be sure to call Animas even if you clear the alarm yourself as they note all occurrences in their database, if you get the same code thrice in a month they will replace the pump. But I don’t think this warrants a pump replacement, I find it reassuring that the pump is constantly checking itself. It doesn’t only happen on battery or set change, I’ve had it happen out of the blue.
It is just 1 more first time for all your pump experiences. My 1st pump was a 1250 & I’ve had a 2020 since last summer, it has happened with both.
Me not being the one that worries about these things too much I’d just clear it and go on like you did this time. HOWEVER if the next time you change it out it happens again I would ask for a “NEW” replacement pump. I would let this cartridge empty out and change the battery again to see if it will do it again. If it doesn’t happen again I would just go on. They do all the safety checks like they told you and when they don’t line up exact they give you err codes.
I use to get these codes all the time on my 1250 pump. It was only an issue if the same code came up 3 times in the same month. If that happens, than i would worry, but its just a “safety” issue

I believe the person at Animas said the same thing about if it happens again in the same month then it’s a problem. Glad I’m not the only one who has had this alarm
Animas is a great company and a great product not only because of the designs and usability of the their products, but BECAUSE OF THEIR SERVICE. You must insist that you are not comfortable with the frequency of alarms and that you want a new pump. You will have one the next day. It is obvious that as a pumper, you have confidence in your device. Random alarms indicate that either there is a problem with this specific pump or there is something in the new firmware inside that patch of PING’s. Either way, you MUST BE CONFIDENT THAT YOUR PUMP IS ALWAYS WORKING WITHOUT FAULTS. This level of service is why we all bought Animas and you must insist they honor their part of this guarantee. Don’t be shy, TELL THEM TO SEND YOU A NEW UNIT!
