Pumping in vacation?

Hi everybody!
I am going on a pump ( Probably animas ) very soon. But because I am going at least 3 times a year in the turks and caicos island (Family), I am wondering If I could leave my pump at home and return to the MDI only for couple days?? Do you give your self a break sometimes??? Do you get all messed up if you do so???
I don't really like the look of a pump in a bathing suit:)

I just took a week long cruise last week and disconnected before leaving. It went fine for me. I made sure I disconnected the night before leaving and took Lantus before bed. When I got back I reconnected right before bed. May numbers were in he high hundreds for a day and than returned to low hundreds.
