Question about OmniPod

Hey everyone!
Im finally getting my OmniPod! It supposed to be here tomorrow. Anyways, my appointment for the training is on tuesday and the specialist told my mom that he’s going to have me on the pod with just water and maybe some insulin at first. Did anyone else have to do this?

Also, i just was thinking about something right now. I am a HUGE roller coaster fanatic and i go to theme parks at least 2 times a month. Has anyone had any issues wearing the pod on the rides? haha i just thought right now i hope this does not interfere with roller coasters! O_o

Anyways, thanks in advance!

Hey, congrats on choosing your insulin pump! I heard so many people say “The insulin pump changed my life” “The insulin pump is the best thing that ever happend to me.” It sounds so cliche when people say that but you’ll find out in a few weeks that is SO true.

When I got my pump it was about 2 weeks inbetween the training and recieving it. I did wear it with saline for about 2 weeks. That way I could get a feel for it and play around with boluses without hurting myself by using insulin. I dont think water would be the best thing to use because it evaporates over time. But ask your doctor for some saline or pick some up from a pharmacy. Just dont make the same mistake that I did by wasting too many supplies/pods trying to practice. Good luck!

Welcome to becoming a pod person. Ceck out the Omnipod group, you’ll find loads of good info.

I started with saline in the first pod too. I just did it for the three days though, I met with the CDE the next week and started the good stuff. Some people have said that there is more discomfort with saline. I did not notice that but keep it in mind if it stings a little.

Once you’ve had a pod you’ll never go another way. See you around on the site.

I went straight from MDI to the pump with no use of saline or water, my doctor hooked me up and I was off.... And the roller coaster thing, should be fine, I also love coaster and did actually go to six flags in october 08 and my only problem was that I was carrying my PDM on the front of my waist which hurt with that lap bar on it....otherwise I was fine, I think if you wore the pump on your back or arm when you may be riding those coaster stomach may cause some discomfort. I love the pod I have been using it since September 9th 2008 and nothing but love comes from me.

good luck and congrats on your pump

You might try wearing it on the back of your arm if you have enough fat. I did. The 2nd day I wore my pod, i went hiking and slid down multiple steep slopes. I was worried for a bit, but knew that I had put enough tape on it so that the pod was secure.

I run alot too, so I usually wear it on my back so as to prevent the constant jumping around if I had put it on my belly. I still got a lose a little bit of the beer gut to be able to confidently put it there.

Thanks everyone!
I can’t wait to get it!
