Quick BG Question

Ok, so this morning before school I want really hungry for whatever reason and decided I wouldnt eat breakfast. (I know, thats really bad) Instead of going low like I thaught I would, I went up to 332. This is the second time Ive skipped breakfast this year and both times my BG went high. But on the other hand, if I skip lunch, I’ll go down to about 50. Does anybody know whats going on here?!

Uggh…“morning dawn phenomenon”, where in the morning, your insulin resistance is the highest!!! I got the same thing, and it sucks, especially on weekends when the first thing I wanna do is go running. You may have to adjust your basal rates for the morning.

Sounds to me like your basal is too low in the morning, but usually you compensate for it with a bigger bolus, but around lunch time your basal is too high and you take less bolus to make up for it. So I’d raise the breakfast basal and take less bolus for breakfast, and lower the basal around lunch and take a bigger bolus. Does that make sense? I’m not an expert, lol, but that’s what I’d do.

what’s likely happening is something called the Dawn Phenomenon. In a non-diabetic, the body releases cortisol upon waking up in order to raise the blood sugar to “prepare” the individual for the day. When this same thing happens to us, our blood sugars go haywire. Ask your doctor about how to adjust basal/insulin values in order to counter this effect

when you don’t eat your body thinks its starving itself, your body hangs on to all the nutrients it can and produces glucose… i think this relates to the dawn effect as well i’m not too sure… but this is why your metabolism slows down and stores fat when one doesn’t eat. This happens to me all the time, i do not skip meals but i’m a very picky eater… on days where i eat little my blood sugar may spike and as soon as i eat it drops… its very strange, I would google it or ask your educator for more information

i’ve had that same thing happen i dont really know the reason but my endo always says that when you dont eat your blood sugar will go up. When i go to bed my sugars are always like 106 or so but i always wake in the 200’s

i think that it is more basic than all of that… did you take insulin when you didn’t eat? often the basal won’t totally cover normal daily activity (and dawn phenomena) so your body may just be out of insulin…
