Ready to easily put your used CGM Sensor to good use for free? Me, too! I found that Abbott offers a no-cost program to “transform your used sensor kits into renewable energy.” Just login to https://abbottstore.com and order a free shipping bag. Then send your used sensor packs, applicators, and sensors back for processing. That beats putting more stuff in our landfills.
Please share if you’re aware of similar active re-use programs for Omnipods or other CGMs and pumps.
Thanks to and for this wonderful community!
Wow @Carol_S1 that is a neat find. I don’t even use the Libre and I wanted to know more.
From the FAQ on https://www.freestyle.abbott/us-en/home/sensor-kit-take-back-pilot.html
What is waste-to-energy?
Waste-to-energy is the process of converting waste materials into electricity and heat, generating a renewable energy source. Waste-to-energy reduces carbon emissions by offsetting the need for energy from fossil sources and reducing methane generation from landfills.

Thanks for going the extra mile with information! You added another reason for me to smile today.
I think Omnipod takes them back if you’re in Massachusetts, but only Massachusetts.
It’s a little surprising since the used sensors are both medical waste and electronic waste. The regulations are pretty intense and autoclaving them would render the electronics useless.
I don’t know how anyone is getting by the regulations to recycle them.
And if you’re in Canada.
Whomever Abbott partnered with isn’t recycling them. The EPA article Abbott links to makes that clear.
Thanks for that. I called Abbott Canada and there is no program in Ontario, but apparently one in B.C.
