Hi all,
For me, if depends on how well the adhesive is stuck to me. Most of the time I gradually peel it off.
I usually just grab and pull, like ripping off a bandaid. I recently switched to Sure-T infusion sets which had a steel cannula – I remove those a little more slowly.
I find that the adhesive sticks very well for me, but some other people need to use extra adhesives (I think it varies by skin type).
Ripping it of like a Band-aid Work best for me. Even if it’s still pretty stuck on, I’ll peel the corner just enough to grab it, and then the quick motion to finish it.
cheers guys, thanks for the help, looking forward to getting my actual pump
Peel the corner and pull it off swiftly. To me, slowly pulling it off hurts much more. Watch out for those door knobs - the sets don’t always stick. Haha
My 10 year old removes hers slowly, peeling from the outside in, in a circle, until she can pop out the cannula. We have tried Remove It which breaks down the adhesive but she finds it messy and loathes having to then wash the area with soap and water.

I rip like a Band-aid on Sil’s and Quik Sets, but go slowly on Sure T’s

band aid style. I always have a tissue handy for those occasions of profuse bleeding from the site. I have ruined many a pair of boxer shorts because of this, and freaked my wife out a few times as I stumble to the bathroom clutching my bloody stomach, LOL
Tend to find that dampining sensor set pad and the barrier film and waiting a min or two, then peel up a corner and do the quick bandaid thing works best for me
Dampening = with Unisolve, an adhesive remover, there are others as well… But it seems to work, and can be alcohol swabbed off reasonably well
Remove is supposedly more aggresive than Unisolve (at least what i got out of the Smith and Nephew people who werent really very forthcoming with dealing with end users vs medical persons)
with the MM Silhouettes the sticky is usually all gone. So, its just a quick, one motion pull and it all comes out. With the quick sets, I used alcohol swabs which will take off any sticky left. So simplest steps for me, swab with alcohol, wait 2-3 seconds, pull!
I use the pop top method - grab and pull.

Agreed - MM sets don’t stick well so there is usually an edge loose. I grab and go band-aid style. Doesn’t hurt at all with the bend canula, but I think that if I had a steel needle I would take my time!
I have yanked out my set on the door handle SO many times. We have those handles that are like a little bar sticking out to the side so I get caught really easy. I think I prefer having it ripped out to having a jolt when the adhesive is still strong, though
grab and pull strictly…I use IV Prep on my infusion sites and Skin Tac on my sensors (after insertion) and they peel off pretty easy after ~3 days.
For me, like John Daly says grip it and rip it. Then I use Tac Away to remove the residue and Skin Tac to prepare a new site.
alcohol over the top of the set takes care of any sticky residue. Then rip away!
