I have been using restasis for dry eye for about a month and my bg seems to be running lower overall. I had to use a steroid drop right before the restasis for the first 2-3 weeks. Sometimes it seemed to spike me but I wasn’t sure.
I wonder if anyone else has had this reaction? Cyclosporine is an old anti- rejection drug and for dry eye it works by stopping the T cells which cause dry eye in auto-immune conditions.
I have also had to do a lot of temp rates and get more aggressive with insulin so I’m not sure what is causing what.
I’ve been using Restasis for dry eyes for several years. I have not noticed a correlation between using it and irregular blood glucose readings. The dry eyes I had been suffering is much better, however.
I still have periods when my blood sugar stays high for hours so I’m not sure. I guess you can never be sure but it does seem to be running lower a lot lately. I went to my eye doctor and after six weeks of reststasis he said my eyes look better already. I still have to use a lot of moisture drops so I’m going to stick with it for three months and see what happens. I’m just wondering if the inhibition of the production of T cell attacks which cause dry eye in autoimmune dry eye causing conditions could also have that effect on the attack on our beta cells.
It does feel very good when my eyes start tearing- it is such a relief. I have been suffering with dry eye for nearly 9 years- it was one of my symptoms leading up to the diabetes diagnosis. I was diagnosed first with blepharitis and then with ocular rosacea- my eyes were so inflamed at that point I had to stay on low dose steroid drops for a long time. I still use moisture goggles at night, a humidifier, motorcycle glasses and lots of other things including avenova eye wash, freshkote and other preservative free moisture drops.
I may try xiidra as well if my insurance will pay for that.
