Sensor and Intimacy

since i have had success w/ attaching my dex sensor to my lower back, i am finding it challenging to be w/out anxiety if my husband touches it. when he hugs me, when we
are intimate w/ one another. i am afraid he will pull it out. i use the Tegaderm over it for extra adhesive but still, i get nervous.

any suggestions?

and BTW: i cannot attach it to my abdomen b/c i don’t have enough “fatty” tissue there.

there are no practical suggestions I can give you, given that you already have a transparent dressing over it. The rest is up to you telling your hubby to not get rambunctious with your sensor. Between my wife and I, we have 2 sets and 2 sensors. Hasn’t been much of an issue.

@Daisy_Mae, have you had it pull out easily in the past? Personally, I think it’s pretty hard to pull out (unless it’s already been on for a long time and the adhesive is worn away), so perhaps the thing you fear is not as likely to happen as you think. No one wants to risk having a sensor come out prematurely because they’re so expensive, but you might consider messing with it while you’re at home and can put a new one on, if necessary, just to see exactly how easy/hard it is to remove. If you discover, as I have, that it’s hard to remove perhaps you’ll fear it less…?

thanks emily.

actually, you’ve made an excellent point!!! when i do my sensor changes, i find it difficult to pull off the old one. i can’t seem to get through that Tegaderm. so you are really making me think twice. also, just as an aside, i just tried a new location for which i am a bit concerned (but as an experiment, i shall see what happens.) i reached around to my lower right back, near the hip area, but really on the lower back, and it all went in well, but i am a bit concerned b/c this is the side that i sleep on. i wouldn’t have put it there, but i deff needed to rotate (as i do w/ my pump). i guess a good nights sleep will be my teacher.

I hope the new spot works out for you!

i’ll keep you posted. thanks

Mine might stop working, but I have never pulled one out, and i do not use an adhesive covering. I think Emily has the right answer, I would first wait for a problem before worrying too much.

Let’s see, how can I post this whie remaining modest…

I wear my sensor in my leg, it works great there for me. A few weeks ago, an article of clothing was being removed from me and caught on my sensor and pulled it quite hard. Hard enough that it pulled the Opsite up a little a bit (I think that’s what happened, anyways), but the thing stayed in just fine.

I think you’re worrying a little too much, but I totally understand. You don’t want to have finally found a good spot only to have it ripped out. I like EmilyC’s suggestion to play around with it before you change it out next time. That should bring you some peace of mind.

Just to extend Emily’s suggestion, you and your husband could perhaps arrange to “stress test” the sensor on a day when you already expect to remove the sensor. That would allow you both to explore the possible limits of adhesion without worrying too much about the consequences.

It also raises the question as to whether or not Dexcom would replace a sensor which was less than 7 days old if it were accidentally removed in this context. I wonder if anyone has actually ever asked them?
