Shoes!

So I just recently started a new job that has me on me feet (literally standing) for 10 hours a day. For as long as I can remember all I wear is skater shoes. This new job, makes me wonder if there are better shoes out there. When I get home from work, my feet are sore, arches toes and all. I have read that the 'Diabetic" shoes are really good for arches and blood flow in the feet, But the cost of these shoes kinda scares me off.

Just wondering if anyone else out there has had experience with this type of work. And what shoes/inserts you could recommend for someone on a semi-fixed income. Thanks again.

I had a similar job once. I started out with a pair of Nike running shoes, but they were rather painful. I then just switched to another brand of athletic shoes (I think it was Avia), and they worked really well. I guess I would just suggest trying on different pairs of shoes and seeing which ones feel comfortable. But maybe it’s something you’ll get used to once you’ve done it for a while?

The best shoes for a big toe box is New Balance. They have some mid-range shoes at $49.95, then get the best inserts you can afford. Happy Feet or Spenco would be my preference. No gel inserts. Of course, I have narrow heels so I had to choose between toes or heel, and chose toe comfort, hence the New Balance.
Others may have different or even better suggestions.

Birkenstocks, New Balance, Keen, Merrell all have some supportive shoes. Best bet is to head to a shoe store and just start trying on shoes! You should have something with good support and padding to keep your feet happy.

Good luck!

Doc Martens, I wore them for years Bartending. I stood for 10+ hours on hard floors (no mats) They are $100+ but most comfortable shoe ever.

I second the Dr. Marten’s or any Dr. Marten type shoes with the Air-Wear Sole. Super comfy. I get the Vegetarian Shoes brand which have the Air-Wear soles which are non-leather. They are rather expensive (as can be the original Docs) but they last forever. I used to be a zookeeper and was on my feet constantly all day moving and standing, on concrete, rock, soil and sand, and my feet never got sore. The boots even got water-logged a few times and never fell apart!

They have boot styles and dress shoe styles.

Brikenstocks are great too if you need sandals - I have only worn the sandal styles

I LOVE Keen shoes. They are amazing!

ha! yes i’ve had several jobs like that… and still do. probably will forever lol

if you have any stores around you that specialize in “running” they can do a gate test and find a pretty close to perfect match for your arch and width, etc… usually under $100

i usually have Nike or Asics have been my current go to. very comfy to be on your feet in for many hours

I love my Keens… I have them in almost every color now (I’m a huge fan of shoes that don’t require socks but are still very comfortable). If I have to wear a sneaker NB’s are the only thing that really fit me well.

“good support” and “padding” are actually not necessary in a shoe… good FIT is important. I love my Vibram Five Fingers too and they have neither support or padding - just protection while still letting me feel “barefoot” (I love that). Our feet were simply not designed to be wedged into shoes all day.
