Skipping Breakfast

Quick Survey: Do you skip breakfast? If so, why?

diabetes wont let me skip breakfast anymore. if i do, my sugar starts going up. prediagnosis i just used to have a coffee. no more, have to eat. so illogical...

No. Only exception is AM basal testing.

Hi Jane. I postpone breakfast. At about 8:00 AM I have a giant latte, during this season a giant pumpkin latte. At about 10:30 AM I have a small breakfast, such as some cream of buckwheat or half a muffin. By 11:00 I've taken care of the dogs, read my emails, read the newspaper, and am just about ready to face the day. I didn't quite answer your survey question, but anyway, the why of my morning is that I'm retired and enjoy my leisure.

Thanks for your responses! Trudy - glad you enjoy your leisure! Looking forward to that in a few years.

NorCal, if, like pancreaswanted, you experience Dawn Phenomenon, I wonder what happens to your basal test? I guess that's why you do the test - to find out if your basal is covering any DP. How often do you basal test?

Yes, I've got the DP! Since I'm on the Ping pump, the goal is to keep my BG stable from wake up to about noon. I don't start if below 100 or over 200. The opportunities to do it in the last week, I've been too close to either end of that scale to start. Next chance is Wednesday. Nothing like a fast before Thanksgiving.

I also postpone, I eat at 9:00 and have egg whites with vegetables only. I bolos for a correction.

i don't skip breakfast, i have dp so i stay away from carbs pretty much.

Thanks, KML and Leonard!

for 15 years of the 20 years I've have type 1 diabetes, I did skip breakfast.
I skipped because I was so afraid to get lows in the middle of the night I would eat so much food late night that I would take my AM dose of 15R and 15N and would not eat til the afternoon. spike my sugars to 300mg/dl and 400mg/dl then wait for the 50mg/dl to eat, all of this with no blood glucose monitoring, just winging it. so so foolish. and now that I am monitoring very closely (every 3hours) I see a clear picture of how mis managed I was.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Thorn. I hope things are going better for you now.

so much better...thanks Jane K,
I am so fortunate that after 15 years of extreme highs and lows
I have only minor complications. I am inspired to be manage this type 1.
