Snacking

I was just wondering what everybody prefers as there snack. I seem to find they either send me sky high or don’t bring my sugars up enough so i don’t got too low later. Any suggestions would be appreciated =)

Pickles, strawberries, sunflower seeds, and protein shakes are among my favorites. All are either zero-impact or low-impact on the blood glucose.

Cheers =)

I like cashews, or sunflower seeds. raw carrots and cucumbers…don’t budge my blood sugars. I will have a low sugar ice cream if I can handle a little rise in my sugars without a bolus, If I can have a bigger snack, I go for chocolate ANYTHING!

I don’t typically snack. That’s because I don’t want to bolus for it and it’s tough for me to eat a tiny amount of anything. YMMV (your mileage may vary): Jason’s strawberries (assuming eating more than 1) would send my blood glucose level up.

There’s no reason a person with diabetes has to snack (although that seems to be ingrained in the culture)–it’s possible to adjust insulin so blood glucose stays steady, no snacking required.

Of course, if you’re hungry or trying to prevent a low, a snack comes in handy! I vote for Robyn’s chocolate: dark chocolate, bittersweet.

Some days an apple will do, other days I sometime need to have a few rounds of bread, just depends on what I’m doing. Have you tried those Go Ahead biscuts, they’re gorgeous.

I don’t have to snack to keep sugars ok…just get hungrey sometimes and other times I just want chocolate! I dream of chocolate! really!

How do you make a protein shake? I hope it comes in chocolate flavor.

You can buy a big tub of the stuff at wal mart and you just mix it with water or milk or whatever.

I’m always snacking on nuts. Usually almonds are the best bet. I noticed Cashews can raise my BS sometimes. Also, apples with peanut butter. The protein in the PB slows down the absorption rate of the apple. I hope this helps.
