Does someone have experience with using a infusion set that has a steel cannula? I was thinking about having my 7 year old try the orbit micro.
I have been using the Medtronic Sure-T sets for a number of years …I read about Sure-T’s here .The chap , who " promoted " them is not a member anymore …I tried all the other MM sets and all " kinked " …MM has 2 lengths of steel cannula 's I use the 8mm presently …when I mentioned , that I would try, I got funny looks : METAL in you ?? Presently no reason to use something different …and pumping for over 10 years …bottom line … your 7 year old has to " like " them …why not get a few samples ?
I agree with Nel. I use the Sure-Ts as well and i love them. I started them because of issues with scar tissue. They go through it without issues. You don’t feel them so it’s not like you think about it. I’ve even used them in a 3 year old without any problems.
A couple of months ago I received 2 samples each of the four or five different infusion sets that are offered by medtronic. I simply said that I was having trouble with the one I was currently using and asked about different infusion sets. I would recomend this first.
The Sure-T steel cannulas worded fine at delivering insulin. The only negative was that I noticed that the steel cannula was more sensative and painful when bumped compared to the plastic cannulas. This may be a problem for an active 7 year old if they react the same way as me.
My 10 year started out with the silohette(?) and we both had trouble with it. She didn’t like the thump of the inserter and I was uncomfortable with trying to achieve the correct angle. So I called Medtronic and they sent me 2 samples of every infusion set they offer, free of charge. We did try the Sure-T and my daughter thought it was more sensitive than the plastic canulas. She does gymnastics and cheerleading and said she could feel the steel. We settled on the Quick-set and have been happy with that.
From reading the comments before mine, especially those from Capin and Mojavenation, I would also question whether a steel cannula is right for a (probably) active, growing, 7-year old. But I see the Orbit Micro also uses steel. What makes you want to go this route? Is there an allergy to the other ones?
