Stress Control & Diabetes

STRESS- cure it but how? It has a negative impact on my glucose numbers, acid reflux and TMJ.my uncle, who is like my Dad has stage 4 lung cancer and treatments have stopped. My sister in law has stage 4 bone cancer and her treatments have stopped. I recently had a skin cancer scare and recently diagnosed with Grade 2 esophagitis and hiatal hernia.
What are some ways you deal with stress? Working with clay in sculpture or pottery used to be my best way but I can’t do that right now.

Oh my @1DebY…So much empathy here. One week ago, my beloved sister was dx with stage 4 lung cancer—which manifested first as a femur break when her bones went all mushy. I’m dealing with fibromyalgia, The D, arthritis and newly dx COPD.

All of these have forced me to consider adjusting my control routines for my diabetes. Tai Chi and gardening help me. Also various sitting, gentle exercises. I also find calm in listening to talks by the American Buddhist nun, Pema Chodrun and various TED talks on a variety of subjects. A lot of chamomile tea. Music. Reading and just sitting still at least once/day all by myself. Movement to music…No easy answers, but you are so right that stress plays havoc with us in special ways. I know you will get lots of ideas here…Blessings…Judith in Portland…

i do something creative that requires a lot of concentration. when my mom died, i transcribed an interview for a history assignment my daughter did with her and put it up on the internet on a special site I made her. I also started collecting things she had written and put them up as well. i used to make sort of music videos taking parts of video, images and music from the internet and putting it together in apple’s video editing program imovie. i’m lucky that i work with children, and they are usually so happy and funny that i get lifted up because of them. sleeping well is important. so far my sparing use (not every day) of only 100mg of gabapentin is going well, but i have only just started it. animals and nature are calming for me.

Yes—I totally get that , @v_prediabetic! My fingers have gotten too stiff for the intricate embroidery that I used to love, but I have been re-teaching myself knitting and as I get better and increase the difficulty of the patterns I choose, I can see it will be a boon. But now that I think of it, the simple knitting I do now is soothing and calming…
