I also found it interesting that Tandem said they plan to launch “THIS SUMMER” a Mobile App that will allow for wireless uploads from a t:slim X2 to t:connect (Tandem’s Cloud based reporting system).
Unless there is something hidden within the current X2 (USA) software, I see no way this is possible without an X2 update being applied.
Which may mean Tandem intends to release an X2 update this Summer to allow the wireless connection and followed by a second update in Q4 for the Control-IQ.
I am kinda excited for this as I really want access to the Mobile Device aspect but may want to keep running Basal-IQ longer. We are getting such good results from Basal-IQ that I am not sure I want to immediately jump onto Control-IQ. So being able (potentially) to have access to the Tandem Mobile App and also continuing to run the Basal-IQ is (IMHO) a really nice option. And unexpected.
I had previously thought these two items would be rolled together into a single update but with Control-IQ being pushed back a few months perhaps they decided they did not want to wait on the Mobile App / Connection (whatever) piece.
Note that the Mobile App does require FDA approval. Not so much on the mobile app as that is not a primary display and as such would not require FDA approval but rather the software portion that is loaded onto the X2 pump (which users would only see as a single screen to enable/control the Bluetooth connection) will require a software update in order to function and it is the update on the X2 which will require the FDA approval.
Tandem CEO Sheridan:
This software will also allow for our customers to use their mobile phone as a secondary display which will provide them access to their pump information, including alerts, without having to directly access their pump. We will have a list of additional features and capabilities that we plan to rollout for this app in stages over time with our ultimate goal of implementing full control for t:sport.
Screen shot of the Canadian X2 which shows the screen for the wireless connection. I assume the USA screen for this functionality would be similar when it is released. Note that the Canadian User Guide says you can connect “ONE” mobile device to the pump.
