Team Type 1-Sanofi seeks active, elite male cyclists with diabetes for possible inclusion in our USA-based race squad. If you are an elite cyclist with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus, or type 1 diabetes, we would like to hear from you as soon as possible. In 2013 we are beginning our third year as a professional continental squad, with more than 250 calendar race days, and invite you to contact our Atlanta office with information about elite male and female cyclists with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. We currently have five professional cyclists with type 1 diabetes on our men’s professional squad and are seeking to expand in 2013. We have 7 young male T1D cyclists in our development program, with a direct connection to the elite program and regular opportunities to race as a stagiaire. There are 11 riders on the women’s team, with a committed recruitment drive to find more. At Team Type 1-Sanofi we have cyclists from 19 countries racing, with events across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas in a calendar that runs from January to November.
Curious, what type of time commitments are you talking about? I'm not really sure that I'm the type of rider you are looking for, as I've never "officially" raced. I only ride for fun and charity with some coworkers. (And I already have a nice dayjob with a few kids at home)
I have done some MT bike racing. I sent a resume in but let them know i could not quit my job. Don't want to do the (woulda coulda shoulda)
All the Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas Layin' in the sun, Talkin' 'bout the things They woulda coulda shoulda done... But those Woulda-Coulda-Shouldas All ran away and hid From one little Did.
Oh, for some reason I thought the "we" in your post included "you". ;-) Guess I should have read it a little better.
The part of the story that you don't hear about is how Did left his job to chase that dream, the dream went up in smoke, and then Did lost his house, his wife, and is living on a park bench these days begging for change from passers-by.
I would love an opportunity to ride with a group of serious riders that are diabetic, but I'm afraid that the racing lifestyle is not for me. I do ride 5-6000mi/yr, a bunch of that on long and/or fast rides. Between randonneuring rides over 200mi, and the local informal races I've got some great experience, but if joining the team meant moving to Georgia, that's not really my cup of tea.
It would be cool if there was a Race for diabetics. Manufactures of diabetic stuff could sponsor it. Then we could all race against each other. I guess we would have to let nondiabetic’s race but they could not win.
I'm going to bring a few buddies then, namely Peter V, Bernie E, Matt G, and Mark R. Maybe even a good buddy Cav to take me the last 100 meters. Since they don't qualify for a medal and all...
