I am in a bit of a panic because it seems that I somehow lost my next month's supplies of test strips. I picked them up from the pharmacy about a week and a half ago, brought them to work with me, and I'm not sure they ever came home with me.
I only have about a week left until I should be able to fill them again (I have BCBS) but as of this morning I am out and need to get more. I am currently between doctors, being a recent transplant from AZ to New York. I think my old doctor's office would still help, I'm just not sure what to ask for (they can't give me any physically because I'm too far away).
The lost test strips in question were for the OneTouch Verio, but I also have an AccuChek Nano. Anyone on here have advice for how to get more? If I were to get a prescription for different test strips is it likely that my insurance would fill it?
I switched meters just after filling a script for my old strips and the insurance covered the new ones no problem - I also have BCBS. I imagine even your new doctors office should have samples of some kind of test strip and maybe even the meter to go with them - I had no insurance when first dx and the doc kept me supplied with samples of everything including insulin. Good luck!
Walmart has an inexpensive glucose meter for only $30 and the test strips are only $9 for 50 strips. You don't need a prescription for either one. Hopefully, this could be an inexpensive option. The name of the meter and strips is Reli-On Prime.
Whatever the largest pharmacy(ies) in your area will all have an in-house "generic" brand meter and strips. Shouldn't cost more than thirty dollars for a decent quantity of strips 50-100 strips somewhere?
