I would like to thank all of my friends here on Tu for all the thoughts, well wishes and prayers for me and my family.
The overnight stay in the hospital wasn’t too bad. My hospital here has great food although I was not put on a renal diet which kind of confused me. When I asked I was told that the dietician will go over all of that this week while I am in the outpatient dialysis clinic. That starts tomorrow in the afternoon.
My only problem now is that I am allergic to the adhesives they use on the tape that holds the bandage over my catheder entry area and it is itching something terrible.
I have also had a couple instances of one of our dogs finding the catheder when they jump on me. Now that stings a little.
So I have started the new phase in my life. I will blog again after/during that first full blown session.
Oh ur welcome Sparky! That's what ur new family is here for!!! Anytime u need us please know that someone from this family will be there for u!!!! I've had to usexd them a few times myself! LOL!
Glad you are home. Hopefully your renal diet won't be too bad. I know that they often limit protein, but I'll be interested in whether they give you the low fat mantra as well.
Hi Sparky. I have some fondness for hospitals. When I had an operation they hooked me up to an IV-glucose machine, and a few hours later diagnosed my diabetes! That explained a lot.
After using the pump for a few years, I'm allergic to tegaderm and latex. I hope they find an adhesive for you that works very soon. Be sure to make an issue of it, you shouldn't have to deal with an itch. Like the others, I'm glad that you're home again -- and best luck with those jumping dogs!
Sparky, I'm so glad your hospital stay wasn't too bad. We are the ones who owe you and your family thanks for sharing your journey with us and for showing us what grace under fire truly looks like. You and your wife are amazing people who manage to bring joy to others even as you go through a difficult time.
I'm interested to hear what the dietician tells you about the renal diet.

Sparky- The thanks goes to you for taking us on this journey of yours. We appreciate the info that you are sharing even though it is personal and somewhat painful for you. Now you will have to "talk" to your dog about jumping on you !!
As for the dog thing, I put a "spell of invisibility" on my tubing when I got my pump over a year ago, and my cat hasn't noticed/bothered it yet. Now if I could do the same with my nose and chin which she likes to nibble occasionally (lovingly of course!)
Oh Sparky, you are so dear to all of us, and I love the wonderful comments you've gotten here from people I am proud to call my friends. I do recall that big square of tape they put over the catheter site. But, certainly you are not the only patient who has had this problem. There must be alternatives. Demand that they try something else. Talk to the nephrologist, nurse and technicians and do not suffer in silence. As a medical consumer you have the right to be as comfortable as possible. Maybe when they start using your arm they can use that flesh colored meshy stuff that sticks to itself. (I always keep mine after a blood draw and use it to hold up my tomato plants). How 'bout wearing a tight fitting tshirt at home to hold the tubing in place. We wouldn't want the pups to feel neglected. Good luck tomorrow.
