The happy/smile list

thought I’d lighten the mood and start a list of the little enjoyable things in life that often get over looked or forgotten about, but can make life happy or bring a smile to the face to just think about…even when depressed or stressed~~~ count your blessings and read someof these and feel free to add your own or leave comments!!!

hugs from anyone, the beautiful smile on a child’s face when they see you a child on your lap/in your arms. a kiss, thunder, lightning, the smell of rain and the sound of it, the sound and sight of ocean waves coming up on the shore, the sound of an eagle’s cries flying high on the wind, the sound of a breeze blowing thorugh the leaves the peace when you are on your way home, the love of family and friends, the smell of peppermint, the smell of chocolate baking, the smell of a christmas tree, a hummingbird, fireflies in the evening, snow in winter, sledding down a hill sunshine on your face.

I’ll add labrador retrievers and thank you for this list – you have the perfect name!

I will jump in on this… crickets, lightening bugs, sleeping in on a rainy Sunday morning, the sound dogs ears make when they shake, and peanutbutter.

dog licks/greetings,road trips, fortune cookie messages, ‘gentlemen start your engines’ cue, elevators, the billions of questions kids ask, laughing and not being able to stop and then laughing for no reason, payday, hallmark and e-cards, digital cameras…keep going guys!!! see I got the idea from a book called 14,000 TO BE HAPPY ABOUT so see how many we can list… it’ll make ya smile and have a better day!!! =)

Listening to young children talk to each other… it’s almost a different language and fun to try to figure out what they are talking about! Definitly labs they are the best dogs I’ve ever had. A cat curled on your lap purring. Hot chocolate and a warm fire on a cold snowy day. Finishing a good book but wanting more. Sitting in the middle of an Aspen grove. I love this idea!

More of an elaboration than an addition to the list, but the fourth item “child vocab. and trying figure out what they saying” really hits home with me. My 1-1/2 year old son learned to say three new words today: Pizza, Goat, and Car (until about an hour ago, he always referred to the latter as a “beep-beep”.) Nothing can make me smile as much as a child.

-running into a friend unexpectedly on Saturday morning–turning on the car radio and it’s playing one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs–buying some extravagant imported yarn and pondering what to make with it–hugs and kisses from my little niece–taking to the bagger boys at the grocery store–an Arby’s potato cake–ice cold Coke Zero–clean sheets–walking to the bus in the morning and hearing the cardinals fight with the squirrels–finding a lost earring that I thought was gone forever–sugarfree fudgsicles–freeing up space on my hard drive–the purple iris flowers that grow all over my neighborhood–watching When Harry Met Sally for the upteenth time…

Knowing that your kids are going to be coming in the door at any minute, the sweet soft smell of a baby in your arms. rain drops on a tin roof, those first few rain drops falling on you when you are tryig to reach cover, snow flakes falling softly on your face, the quiet soft sound of snow falling, making cookies with your kids. snuggling and giggling in a tent while the kids tell ghost stories, looking at all the beautiful pictures of all the kids as they grow over the years.

lots of those I’ll ditto

my babies, supportive hubby, best buds, true lime packets, starbucks iced coffee with splenda & cream, stars, walking with friends, drive in movies, fireworks, little brothers, family, my spoiled tiny dog who thinks she is human, washing the car as the sun is setting, sitting on the beach, family picnics, little league, soccer games, being in a convertible on the way to the beach, snowed in at christmas, riding bikes, flying, sharing a smile…a laugh…a hug…a kiss, walking kids to school, PTA dunk tank, massage, cooking, fresh produce from the farmers market, bbq-in’, meeting my dad at the airport, crying happy tears, laughing till you cry, thunderstorms, playing hide n’ seek with neighborhood, working on old cars/trucks, going to cruise nights, kettlebells, jumpropes, floating the day away in the pool, computers, cell phones, swiffers lol, …

Jaimie, you wild woman, a swiffer? Now that one actually made me laugh. Thank you so much. Keep going. That was funny.

THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS =)

The smell of my apartment after I’ve just finished decorating a cake (a hobby of mine), little dogs, my godsons, any children at all, reading a good book, hearing my favorite song on the radio, getting a pedicure, spending time with friends.

The sound of my grandsons voice when he calls his Poppa

Way to go debb you are right on here it has been to long almost forgot til you reminded me
Thanks

Whoa! The child coming back from Iraq has to be the very best!!!
Hot shower when you’re cold, walking into an airconditioned building when you’re hot. A tropical breeze in the palm fronds. The dog’s tail flapping against whatever when she sees us…flap flap flap…makes us smile everytime. NAPS!!! A good book! Talking about babies, I remember loving hearing their happy noises when they would wake and play in their crib. Sitting outside somewhere pretty having cocktails and good conversation with friends. Sitting on the porch during a storm. Garlic. Brad Pitt. Cute (and comfortable) shoes. Knowing you are loved.

Debb…you have a son who went to Iraq 3 times? OMG!!! Thank him for doing that for us and I am so glad he returned safely. Is he out of the service now?

I think grandchildren must be as good as it gets. I hope to be so lucky one day.

I’d forgotten favorite songs…they definitely belong on the list. And dancing!
