The reason I am switching to the Roche Accu-Chek nano

Hello all... (I am a newcomer)

Type 2 since 2000
2 Daily 70/30 Insulin shots

The goal I would like to achieve is to develop personalized formulas (a mathematical model) for my Type 2 and treat it as if it were Type 1. This is called "Closed Loop" and it is as near as you can get to an artificial pancreas, self-implemented. Call it Poor Man's AP, if you will.

Here's more detail:

and this is an iPhone app that implements what I want BUT only for Type 1:

I have been collecting A LOT of readings, and intend to put all that data to work. Needless to say, if I am going to try to derive curves, etc. I must use the most precise glucometer.

Hence, I am switching from ReliOn Ultima to an Accu-Chek nano. I am hoping it is the most accurate meter.

I have no problems with my Accu-Chek Nano. I love it. I like the fact that I can feed the data into their software and run various reports. I do a control strip about once a month, just to make sure its still on target. My doctor likes it the best of all the meters he's tried (he's Type II). Make sure you get the discount card to get your strips for no more than 15 bucks, whether you have a prescription for them or not, you can still pay no more than 15$ for them. :)

Hi Dave:

I *definitely* need the card: in the last month or so, I have run several hundred tests (and I have no insurance :-(

I intend to take these two steps, in order to verify the accuracy:

(a) Every once in a while, perform two tests with the same blood drop.

(b) Next time I go to my doctor, I will bring my meter with me and measure the glucose at the same time the nurse does it.

I am doing something similar with the Hb A1c.

Keep us informed. :) Call or e-mail the Roche folks, I was supposed to have a card inside my meter package when I got mine from the nurse, but it was missing, so they sent me one in the mail. I go the data reader and software directly from Roche too. It runs around 29$, but it's definitely worth it.
