This happened to my son - he has only ever worn pods on his arms, but in the first week he knocked two off, but ever since they have almost never come off. We are also so fast at pod changes now that if one were to be knocked off it’s not as big of a deal anymore. I was seriously concerned at first, but it’s turned out to be something that isn’t a factor anymore. Maybe he’s subconsciously aware of them now?
I have only ripped off one pod in 9 months. It was the only one that I placed below my waist. When I undressed, I caught my clothing on it, and off it came. Since then I only wear the pods above my waist.
I am happy with my pod, and one of the reasons I chose it is because it is tubeless. I am not clumsy, I am a total klutz. With a tubed pump, I had visions of catching the tubing on door handles, chairs, etc., and ripping out an infusion set. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I knocked off many more pods at the beginning of my wearing them than I do now. Sometimes I’m still clueless and rip one off but I think you tend to get used to wear you put them and take care of the area. I think it’s just an adjustment thing!
I wore my demo pod on the back of my arm. I found it didn’t snag badly on anything. But it is summer and you’re looking to sleeveless without looking like the Borg, so that may not work for you. I’m pretty clumsy, too. I can manage to bounce off both sides of a doorway as I walk through it. I bet if you wore the pod regularly, you would start to automatically compensate for it. And truth be told, sometimes you’re just going to snag a pod a yank it off. The law of averages has to prevail. They’re good about replacing the pods. I’ve avoided pumps until now because I was afraid that in my infinite grace I would rip out an infusion set with spectacular gore at someone’s wedding. You so don’t want to be remembered as that guy.
I think it’s just an awareness thing that you get used to. I noticed I “hit” the edges of doorways pretty often when I first started wearing the pod on my arms. Now, I have become aware of it and don’t run so close to the the door’s edge anymore. Sometimes there is trial and error when you’re “figuring out” a new pod site, but I think that would come w/ any pump/infusion set situation when transitioning away from shots…
Hopefully the pods getting knocked off are just a fluke thing that you get figured out if you decide to try it out
This happened to my daughter in the beginning. I think once you have it for awhile you become use to it and adjust your movements without even thinking about it.
I, like Brad, am a total klutz. I have bumped into doors and walls and furniture abou 10000 times and lost so man pods due to my clodliness (just made that word up). The reality of it is, you do get used to the "presence " of the pod (eventhough that sort of defeats the purpose)(but not completely) and, Insulet is very good about replacing pods (even when it is our own fault) so I would say jsut give it another chance, try locations on the upper arms (I seem to be less klutzy when they go there).
Good Luck, and I hope you join our ranks!
Totally chalk it up to being a newbie.
I ordered an OmniPod dummy pod last spring. I attached the dummy pod to my arm, and I knocked it off when I passed too closely to a door frame within a matter of hours. But I persisted, and I ordered another dummy pod. Sure enough, I knocked that one off my arm within a day.
Still, I loved tubelessness, and I decided to give the 45-day trial a whirl despite my apparent clumsiness. In the year that I have been on the OmniPod, I think I have knocked off maybe two or three. It’s merely a matter of acclimation. Don’t be frustrated by your initial OmniPod experience – you’ll get there, and it’s worth it!
Some people use an adhesive to get the pod to stay attached to the adhesive patch. There’s a forum here that talked about that.
