i’m always sooo tired, because i eat around 9pm with a humulog shot and then feel i have to stay up another 3 hrs before the lantus nighttime shot. does anyone here know whether or not I must wait 3 hrs., or can I just take the lantus when i get sleepy???
Why do you have to wait three hours to give yourself Lantus?
I don’t know what your end said to you but mine said i can take the two together as long as they are injected into two different areas of my body if doing so. Its not the ideal solution according to my endo but he told me its a workable one (i tend to inject into my tummy, so I inject the humalog into my tummy and the lantus into my thy (which takes longer to be absorbed so by time the humalog is hitting the lantus is in process (since in theory there is no spike time for the lantus).
One thing you are advised to do with Lantus is take it at the same time everyday. Shifting the time back and forth can cause mild lows and highs. It sounds like Kari’s advice makes sense, to just permanently shift your Lantus injection time to three hours earlier, then you can go to bed whenever you want and not worry about it.
As the others said, you don’t have to wait between rapid acting & basal.
Due to my own regime at the time I took both at once and there was never any problem - except night time hypos, but that was a different problem - so take it when you need to go to sleep and I wish you sweet dreams! Just do not take too much of the Lantus as that is what can cause the hypos.
I agree with Nyxks. I inject the slow release insulin below the belly button and the faster acting one above the belly button. The nearer to the stomach the injection is given the quicker it is absorbed.
