I'm 30 year old femal with type 1 diabetes for 6 years planning to get pregnant. Does any one know good Endo and OB/GYN specialist with experience in type 1 diabetes and pregnancy in LOS ANGELES ? I have an Endo which I'm not satisfied with, he seems to be irresponsible!
I"m also concerned about using Lantus during pregnancy. I don't like pump and don't want to be on lantus.I'm wondering what would be the best treatment? Thanks.
Hello MK - I am 35 and had type 1 for nine months now. I am looking for a good OB/GYN too. I was told that Dr. Bliss was good so I am going to meet her this month. My endo is great but does not treat woman that are expecting because she has a busy seminar schedule. Her name is Dr. Moghissi. So I am in your same shoes…looking for a good Endo and OB/GYN . I recommend participating in the Sansum clinic in Santa Barbara- they are doing diabetes research and all you have to do is give your pre-pregnant blood and then visit Santa Barbara while pregnant to give blood afew times. In exchange for your blood donation you have a great Doctor and team to email, call and visit during your pregnancy. You also are put on a strict carb diet and need to keep track of your insulin, meals, exercise etc. You communicate with the doctor once a week and she reviews all your logs, answers questions etc. I think its great becuase you stay “on top” of your sugars and although it might feel like boot camp sometimes - the baby’s health is worth it. If you choose to go that route - Contact Dr. Hone - she works with Dr. Jovanivic. I highly recommend it! And who knows…maybe we could car pool to do our Santa Barbara visits in the future.
Also, I choose to go on the Ping- pump - mostly for pregnancy reasons but now I know why people love them. My sugars are really controled and I also got the dexcom - I’m all geared out!! It feels safer to me to have all these gagets and tools in regards to pregnancy.
Thanks for your input. well, the program at santa barbara sounds good but it’s too far. During pregnancy you need alocal facility. There is aprogram for pregnant women with type 1 daiabetes directed by Dr A. Druxler at UCLA medical plaza. They’re very restrict about BG numbers. I’m looking in to that but would like to hear from someone who has been their patient so I can share experience.
Wish you all the best.
