Type 2 diabetes question i have

hello i have type 2 and i was wondering …when i tested my blood sugar this morning before breakfast it was 109 fasting
so do i go ahead and eat something or not ?
i know it is suppose to be between 70-100 for fasting
thanks for all ur help

Frizzle- yes you should eat. Are you taking any medications or trying to control with just diet and exercise? You need to eat at least 3 times a day. Now, what you eat is a different matter altogether. I’d stick with something that is mostly protein with very little carb, but that is just me. Not everyone does very low carb for breakfast. Some people need more in the am. I personally think a 109 reading is wonderful for fasting. I’m happy if my fasting is 121 or 130, but it is different for every person in every stage of their diabetes.

the doctor just put me on metaform i think that is how it is spelled…thanks for ur feedback i greatly appreciate it …what do u think is a good reading for 2 hours after u eat?

Basically- as I understand it, you don’t want your sugar to go more than 30-40 points higher than what you started with. I may be wrong here. So basically, if you start at 109, your reading 2 hours later shouldn’t be more than 139-149. If it is, you want to look at lowering the carb count of the meal. Again, I may be wrong here, but a ton of other things can muck this up. Exercise before a meal can raise then drop your sugars, illness can mess it up. Etc. Can anyone else help here? I don’t want to give wrong info.

Have you had any diabetes education courses or anything? This place can go along way to help you, but you will need a good basic knowledge to be able to care for yourself in the long run.

I didn’t know about shooting for under 140. I was told to stay within 40 points of your original number and then if you are higher after, work at getting it down by lowering carbs or adding exercise. But I was having readings of 280-300 after meals so for me if I were 160 or less after a meal, that is success. But it’s different for everyone. I also eat more carbs a day so that must be the difference.
