I saw an advertisement for it at my endo's office the last few times I was there and was intrigued. I think it is geared towards type 2s who have more steady insulin needs. It seems like it could be a really good option for some people. Glad you're having a good experience with it! I was wondering how people would like it, glad to hear it is helpful for someone!
Saw a presentation on this (by an endo) at a recent support group meeting.
Interesting concept but (a) injections don't bother me at all and I like the precise control they permit, (b) even the lowest setting would be WAY too much insulin for me, and (c) the lack of flexibility (fixed constant rate and boluses in 2 unit increments only) just would not work for me at all.
That said, I haven't any doubt that for some people this is a blessing. I'm just not one of them.
Looks inflexible, expensive and wasteful IMHO.
Whoa! Even the 20 unit rate would put me in the hospital. The lack of flexibility would not work for me--I have 5 different basal rates per day.
I’m a type 1 diabetic and I’ve been using the V-go 20 for about 8 months and I love it. It’s far less wasteful than the omnipod because the V-go is all mechanical while with the omnipod you are throwing away expensive technology. And a three month supply for me is $10. I love that it’s wireless and super easy to use. Better than multiple daily injections.
I looked at the info from the posted link. It IS designed for Type 2s as written in the descriptions. If type 1s do not have a need to adjust basal insulins ( due to dawn phenomenon, etc.), I can see how this would be a viable system. It could work quite well for stable type 2s who would like to use a pump; preferring not to use MDI. If they need smaller or larger hourly rates of insulin(basal) than provided by the three standard choices, they would not be able to use it. I had heard about the research to get this device a few years ago, and I realize that it has come to market now. is it well-known in the medical community and by insurance companies? If it is that inexpensive, is it that could many people pay out of pocket for it, if prescribed?
Glad it is working for you Trista. Sounds so great, in terms of ease of use as well as pricewise!!!
God Bless,
Brunetta
Yes, I attended a meeting last year where an endo showed it and described it. Wouldn't be useful for me for the reasons Brunetta gave, but I can see it being very appropriate (and helpful) for some people.
