Bored and hungry at work this afternoon. All I could think of was a Snickers Bar. (Lesson: pack a larger lunch!) I went to the cafeteria, did eye the snickers, but discovered lovely little Caprese salad. I realized the mozzarella would keep me full til dinner. And it did! I enjoyed the rich flavors & crunch of the fresh basil, tomatoes, and cheese.
An hour later I had totally forgotten about my candy craving.
Good For You, Deborah!! And thank you for sharing your Snicker Snack Revised Story :)
Way to go! I clicked on this thread expecting yet another self indulgent and cravings stimulating post about the deliciousness of some junk food, and I got this lovely little enjoyment of some actual foods!
Well done!
Crunch potato chips have been my nemesis lately. So I've made snack packs with baby carrots & celery sticks. I get all the crunch without any of the BG spikes.
Good for you too Corinna! Nice to hear some solutions and some enjoyment of things that are also healthy!
And the score is Deborah 1, Snickers bar 0, That makes a win in my book.
Looks like Deborah isn't the only one to score a win today.
It is weird how these cravings surface. I can't recall the last time I had a Snickers . . . It was very situational today: I was bored and wanted a "treat." So glad I found a satisfying alternative.
I fully understand this feeling. I am convinced that there are three perfect foods in this world. A cheeseburger, a Vanilla shake, and a Milky Way. I cave in occasionally, but usually, there is something better from which to choose.
Let's see now, when was it that I last had a Milky Way? And the Dairy Queen is now open for the season. Is tomorrow the time for a Vanilla Shake?
I have to stop this...
You can get a burger “protein style” at In and Out Burger. It’s wrapped in lettuce. It will fix your burger craving and won’t screw up your BG numbers.
Yes, positive alternatives; thanks, Molly!
You were lucky that your cafeteria had the caprese option but that's not always the case everywhere.
Actually when I saw the title of your post I looked up the nutritional information for the fun size Snickers bars. They only contain 10.5g carb per fun size bar which does not make it a high carb food at all.
Yes yes, I know some people have issues with not being able to have just one etc etc. Just pointing out that the food in and of itself at 10.5g carb is not going to spike blood sugar hugely. Though personally I'd rather have the Caprese, especially if made with buffalo mozzarella...yum!
Oh, this thread is such a breath of fresh air!
Agree with Molly, good to think beyond the bun. After dx I opted for open face sandwiches, burgers. (But if the bread was good I generally picked at the other half.) Now, 2+ years w/ diabetes, I'm happily ordering sausages, burgers etc on lettuce.
And I agree with Zoe--nice to see a chain that explores overcoming our challenges. I find it so helpful to get others' ideas on how to thrive as a PWD.
