Tuesday was my first day wearing my pod. I decided the best first site was my arm (knowing my family would want to see it). Well, dinner time rolled around and my sister decided take me out. While we were eating, an acquaintance of my sister came up to chat. He noticed my pod and was like "nice sticker." Not sure why he thought it was a sticker but it made my day! They weren't lying when they said discrete! =)
Anyways I wondered if any you ever get approached about your pods?
It’s funny you ask. I play bass in a band and my outfit for a recent show was not concealing the pod on my arm at all. I considered changing my shirt, but my 8-year-old daughter asked “why do you mind if anyone sees your pod?” She had me there. Some people asked me outright what it was to which I replied “an insulin delivery device.” Seemed to do the trick.
I get asked often what it is, and depending on my mood, I will either tell them it's my insulin pump, but I have been known to tell them it`s a tracking device, or a battery pack, or tell them that is Mr Pod or Sir Pod to you, or whatever comes to mind. I figure I should have some fun with it lol
Most often I get asked if its to quit smoking?!?! Huh? I usually respond that I’m bionic or part robot. Or I say “oh that’s my pancreas”.
lol yes I have used that one too haha
Love it! Definitely keeping that one in mind.
I tell people that it's my inventory control tag, and if it's removed, it will spray red ink all over the place.
I've been asked if it was a TENS unit. I didn't know they made them like that. I've used a TENS unit, but it was not attached like my omnipod is. And, I guess soon Insulet will be making these to deliver all types of drugs, so they won't be just for insulin much longer.
Standard I tell them it is my Power Pack. I am powered by Omnipod. If they are interested I explain it otherwise I leave it.
It is discreet enough to be accepted as it is, even when I go to the sauna or swimming.
I tell people it's a required part of my prison release work program. The looks I get.....
I like that one. For me it's the newest iPod - "what, you didn't line up for one? Shhhh - the new AC/DC song is playing."
I usually go with "im a robot" and pull out my "remote control"
I just tell them it's my insulin pump, in monotone with a straight face, and then just sit back to watch the zaniness ensue.
One of my friends told me last night I should write tea on it, and when people ask tell them I have a tea drinking problem and I have a direct line into my vein. I guess she thought the pod looked like a tea bag. =)
Nice, I like that!
LOL that's great!
I've never had it noticed, ever. Always wear it where it's not seen. Don't feel like stares and answering questions and that's the main reason I went with the pod, Discrete.
me too, FHS. I never say it's not anything it's not. Some people know what an insulin pump is. Others still look at me like I"m crazy :)
I think the only thing more fun than seeing the reaction from people who get a straight answer after they've asked about it is to be able to read the minds of people who obviously did notice it but pretend that they didn't.
I love it! I say I am bionic too! I wear mine in my bra, tho, so people who notice it feel pretty awkward!
