OK! So… Im on the MM 522 right now and im up for a upgrade feb 2011… but i have different insurance then i did when i got the pump… So what im thinking is switching to something different… im leaning towards the one touch ping… i like that the meter is intergrated with the pump and that it uses one touch strips (obviously) i have had screwed up results with freestyle so i dont know about the omnipod… and as a plus its waterproof… let me know your opinion on the matter thanks!
I just started pumping in June and I got the Ping. I really like it. I like the fact that it is waterproof - that was my primary reason for going with the Ping. I like the food database on the remote and you can customize that with your favorite foods. The strips were not as important to me because you are still able to enter your BS manually if you want - I have heard mixed reviews on the One Touch strips.
I am not sure if it is something with my remote or they all are like this, but that sucker eats batteries. I am hardly even using it and the batteries wear out fast. I have noticed that when I go upstairs to take a shower & suspend the pump, the remote starts beeping downstairs to let me know the pump is suspended. I hate to see what battery use would be like if I used the meter portion of the remote.
ehh that kinda bites lol how often would you say you replace the batterys?
and im just curious to whats out there when i started with MM like 8 years ago it was the best now it still good but they havent gotten any new features except the cgm which i hate!
I had a doctor’s appointment on Aug 20th and left the remote in my purse for a couple days. The batteries were dead when I took the remote out of my purse so I put some new ones in. They were dead again the other day so they did not survive 3 weeks and I hardly use the remote. Either I had some batteries that were duds or there might be something wrong with the remote. The batteries I put in were brand new but I am going to buy some different ones just to rule them out.
I have the Dexcom and am not really worried about the integrated system that a lot of people prefer.
i have the dexcom and MM cgm and use neither… i feel there annoying to wear and inaccurate and it makes me check my sugar level even more then i do already…
If you have the Dex and don’t use it, then you won’t be worried about the integrated pump & CGMS. I am not planning on upgrading when they come out with that anyway. I have heard you give up the remote for the CGMS and even though I don’t use mine alot, I don’t want to give up the opportunity to use it if I need it.
I have the One Touch Ping and love it .I just started in July this year .With the ping I am getting more for my money with the features the Kelly said, Besides you should look at the new Ping that might be out the end of the year if the FDA aproves it.
It will have work with the Dexcom CGM .
The Ping and Dexcom CGM I will upgrade my Ping.
Good luck DO YOU
DMurray
im not worried about it being intergrated i meant that the meter aka pda device talks to the pump… im not looking for a cgm till they come out with something more accurate…
Thats is what im waiting for maybe the new ping with CGM might be accurate. The rep told me it would be
thats great is there anywhere with info on this pump? or is it just through word of mouth? im not a huge fan of CGM in general but! i must say this dexcom is 5x better then MM… but like with MM its gotta be more accurate because if its not you cant really even partially rely on a reading to base your bolus on and what not… i think the dexcom is good to wear for alittle while like i did but for a long time i dont think so… just my opinion tho…
From what I no about CGMs is that it works different (better readings) if you try different parts of your body.
yes to different parts of your body working better… but no to better readings you always need to do a fingerstick to confirm what the CGM says… when you dont have to then i will be really impressed! :o) not that i dont love that they are making advances but this one just doesnt work well for me…
I understand thats why I’m waiting for something new .
yea i would also but i atleast want something somewhat new like the ping would be sooo much of a upgrade for me… i love my 522 and its been great to me but i want something thats got a few more features and the ping has most of them…
I don’t have any pump experience to compare the ping to but I started pumping in June and I love the ping. I love the meter remote; I hardly ever do anything directly on the pump but use the meter remote instead. I find the battery expectancy listed here to be accurate: http://www.animas.com/animas-insulin-pumps/onetouch-ping/compare-insulin-pumps
It all depends on how you set up your alerts. For example, my pump trainer told me not to suspend my pump when I take a shower (because you’re only losing a bit of insulin while you’re away and then you know for sure that it’s totally primed when you re-connect) so I don’t get any alarms.
I like that I can change the food datebase too. It doesn’t make sense to me that it’s full of info on packaged foods (just like the calorie king book) which already have nutritional info listed on the back. You can also key in your own musical alarm in the EZManager and replace the silly one set as default. A fun little feature:)
Another great thing about the Ping is Animas. I couldn’t ask for better customer service…from the moment I put in a quote request. They’re awesome.
thats awesome… you sound like your just like me pump wise… i dont suspend when i take a shower or anything and like you i want it for the food database but to put my own foods in… and the alarm is cool thanks!
Courtney, I agree. I’m also on a Ping. Mine had been doing something funny with inaccurate “time to check BG” alarms recently. Nothing problematic health-wise, just a little annoying. I called Animas to inquire, and had a new pump in my hands the next day. Their customer service has been outstanding since the first day I contacted them about getting a pump. I’ve called in the middle of the night, it never mattered. Someone great was always there to help with the issue. In addition, I love the fact that so many of the tech’s are registered nurses, as well as pump users themselves. If you have a question, my experience has been that not only do they know the answer, but you walk away feeling like you just had a meetup with another TU friend who just showed you something you didn’t know.
