What sort of steel horse do you ride?

I ride a Trek 4200 Mountain and an older Hybrid Trek. However, here in San Antonio it is dangerous to ride anywhere. The drivers around this town make a sport of trying to run bikers off the road, or throw stuff at you. Not to mention that San antonio has professional drunks everywhere on the roads.

Old ride (died just over a week ago) was a 1981 Lotus Excelle Mixte (silver); it’s start-of-life overlapped with a blue Ross 3-speed women’s bike purchased in 1977. Just purchased a 2008 Specialized Dolce (base model) in silver/gray (the gray looks more like a silvery plum). Still getting acquainted with her…

I ride a Surly Long Haul Trucker…and I love it!

I ride a 2004 Cannondale R500. Aluminum frame with carbon forks. I’ve upgraded the handlebars to FSA Alloy Wing (flat tops), and an FSA Gossamer compact crank (34/50). My favorite part though, is the Garmin 305 computer. It does just about everything, including wireless heart rate and cadence. I highly recommend the Garmin GPS line of bike computers, it makes cycling more fun, especially when you overlay your data on Google Earth.

I recently got more serious about cycling and finally gave up my old steel horse, a 30 lb beast - 1984 Univega Ultrasport 12-speed. Shift levers and all, but a very reliable and sturdy road bike. I still have it, but now ride a aluminum frame with (carbon fork & seat post) 2007 Fuji Roubaix with all new full Ultegra. Needless to say, my avg mph improved substantially. Losing 10 lbs of body weight helped too. I can now routinely complete my favorite 35 mile ride at between 19.5 and 20 mph. I’ve put 2000+ miles on this thing since March…makes riding a pleasure. Not sure what the next step will be…for now I’m happy. At 56 yrs old, I may do some Masters category racing but we’ll see. Next bike will be determined by cycling goals. The main thing is to keep riding, even if it’s a romp in the rain on my old Trek singletrack mountain bike!

Hey Bradford, good to see you here. I just found the site and decided to jump in. Maybe I’ll see you around before the fall is over. I’m riding the HH100 (100 miler) on Aug 29, and the Oklahoma MS150 in Sept. For now, I’ll keep working but am still doing the “t-shirt” rides and enjoying it a lot. Keep riding bro.

I’d buy the bike just because I liked the post. Then I would hire this guy to write all my post on craigslist to sell all my crud. LOL

I love your grit Joan!! I’m with you…I don’t have a clue what these guys are talking about most of the time. But this is how we learn…right? I live in a rural area and mostly ride the country dirt roads. I go between 10-20 miles on my rides. Love it, love it. I like making my own wind.

As usual, my wife and I ride the UN-usual. Our steeds are folding, recumbent small wheel bikes called Sat-R-Days, made by the folks at Bike Friday.

Yes, they are pretty heavy (around 37 lbs), but I can pedal for lots of time without messing up my back - plus, they fit into the boat!

Fair Winds,
Mike

I’ve got a 2003 K2 that has well over 5000 miles on there. It’s been through 5 Ride to Cure diabetes century rides including 3 in Death Valley! My poor girl has been gaining dust since I’ve back in school. So sad.

Hey guys and gals. I am more of a mountain biker so my main ride right now is a 2008 Kona Dawg Supreme that I decked out with Chris king everything pretty much.It was my pet project that I assembled with some help for about a week or two. I also have a Cannondale Synape 5 carbon road bike.

I ride a bianchi nyala have for 12 yrs now its also my pick-up truck

Go Trek! I got a Trek 2.3 last January, and I love it. Aluminum frame, carbon stays and fork. I topped 2500 miles on it in Death Valley last month. I have an aluminum Specialized Podium cyclocross bike for nasty winter rides. I have an all steel Redline 925 to go get groceries. And I have a 1970 Peugot Grand Champion.

I think Cannondale is pretty sweet. I had an M2000 years ago. It’s simply amazing how much bike you can get for your dollar now. Or rather, how much fun you can get for your dollar.

My dream bike is a titanium Moots road bike - the Vamoots model.

Joe

I’ve got a couple of toys, but you can never have enough bikes!

On road I ride a Trek 4.7 and off road I ride a Scott Spark, getting the upgrade bug again though, quite fancy a nice Pinarello for next summer.

Right now - until the new rides come in I’m riding my Steelman with Campy stuff on it. 853 Reynolds tubing with a quill stem and a steel fork and paint from Spectrum Powderworks. It’s the “I’m never gonna give it up” bike.

Road: Look 595 with Campagnolo Record / Super Record 11-speed and Easton carbon bar, stem and carbon-tubular wheels.

Cyclocross: Felt F1X with SRAM Rival single-chainring setup. Easton carbon bar and EA50X wheels with Tufo tubulars.

Mountain: Cannondale Scalpel with Shimano XT / XTR

very cool bike. I would like to up grade but I am happy with my Carbon Q Klein

the mountain bike. Built it this summer. I also have a 2008 cannondale synapse carbon 5.
