OK so round 4 with clomid was successful and I got a positive pregnancy test on Sunday. My period is due tomorrow so it is pretty early. I saw my GYN today and she confirmed in the office and pulled a quantitative hcg and a progesterone. Although the progesterone pulled last week was great 28.8. She thinks I am 4.5 weeks along. I suspect only 4 since I did not ovulate until day 19.
So here is my question. We were pregnant in March and I had cramping and spotting in the beginning of week 4. My dr was out of town but I saw her the end of week 4. At that time she gave me the name of a OB and a perinatologist, she normally follows patients for the first trimester, but she said since I was high risk she wanted to hand me off as soon as possible. The perinatologist said they like to see people after week 6 so they can do an ultrasound and hear a heartbeat. I never got to see anyone as I miscarried in week 6.
This morning before my appointment with my GYN I called several doctors.
I informed my endo she said congrats and she would see me in 3 weeks. My latest A1c was 5.8 so that was great and she bumped my synthroid a half pill once a week.
I made an appt with the obstetrican that was recommended last time.
I tried to make an appt with the perinatologist but they said until I see the OB so they can send a list of concerns they would not see me.
At the appt with my GYN she is very laid back. Asks what my A1c was. Asks if I am taking prenatals, etc. Then she says she will see me in 4 weeks. Huh? I said "last time you wanted me to follow up with the OB sooner." She said let's get you past the 8 week mark first. I am wrong to be concerned. With the history of miscarriage I want to get as much care as possible and that ultrasound would be VERY reassuring. I do not know if she just thinks I will miscarry so let's not get too involved or what. I was so caught off guard I did not really argue I just asked are you sure?
On the way home I cancelled the appt with the OB. Now I am home and very nervous. Should I just make an appt with an OB anyway? Literally my endo will see me before I have any follow-up with my GYN. UGH!
That is reassuring. I saw the endo just last week so I feel ok about that. The perinatalogist will not make an appt until ny OB has seen me and made a list of concerns and I know there is usually a backlog to get in to see him.
My OB likes to see women between weeks 8 and 10. Each time, I’ve seen the OB first and then the perinatalogist for the first time with the first trimester screening in week 12/13. After that, I’ve seen each of them every 4 weeks, then every 2 in the final trimester, and every week in the final weeks.
I saw my endo at 6 weeks (just by accident- that was my regularly scheduled 3-month appointment), my OB at 7 1/2 weeks, and my peri at 8 weeks. The peri was not really because anybody had major concerns, but rather because my OB does not do regular ultrasounds in his office. He refers all of his patients to the peri for those. Since that very first one, I’ve seen my peri, my endo, and my OB once a month, usually in the same week. Starting next week (week 27 for me) I will see my peri every 2 weeks but continue to see my OB and endo once a month. Not sure when those visits will become more frequent. I guess we’ll see!
Ok so I gave up and made an appt with the OB. Long story but I feel like I need to have that big overview appt. I think i am doing ok, I just wish I had more information/directions/suggestions. I guess I am just gun shy from the miscarriage, but that just makes me even more high risk. Sigh
The problem is I was hoping to see him around week 6 or 7 but due to scheduling issuing they want me to come in on Tuesday Oct 18. I will be just 5 weeks too early for an ultrasound but talking to someone will put my nerves at ease.
From there I will just follow their guidelines. I imagine at some point they will want me to see the perinatalogist, but not sure when.
OK so I saw my OB yesterday, First off I REALLY like him. He put my nerves at ease. Also pointed out it is not really need to see the perinatologist until week 12 or so.
I had some mild discomfort on my right side so he wants an ultrasound in 1 week. I will get another 2 weeks after that. Then see him for a visit 2 weeks after that.
My bloodwork came back hcg-is 637 and progesterone is 48; One week ago the hcg was 45 and progesterone was 50. I am kinda wondering if there is a chance of it being twins since I was on clomid.
