It is really hot and humid where I live. I was exercising doing cardio and sweating a lot and I developed a rash about a month ago. The first time I went to the doctor he told me to buy some Lamisil, that didn’t work, so I went back and he gave me some steriod cream that made it worse. I have tried baby powder, Desitin and hydrocortisone cream. Now it has spread, hurts and itches worse than ever and is starting to blister. Is this something that I should be concerned about other than putting up with discomfort? Can skin issues become as serious as hurting your feet? What is normally used to treat something like this when it doesn’t go away?
It does sound serious. When something starts and it gets worse that’s the time to get serious. You’re not healing and that’s something to be concerned about. You need to go back to your dr.
Could it be a yeast infection? Check with your Dr.
A girl I know always had bad allergies. This year, she heard everyone talkign about how bad teh allergies are, but she wasn’t affected. She, however, developed what looked like eczema on her face, for the first time ever. Her doctor sent her to a dermatologist. Aparently sometimes the allergies will transfer from your sinuses to your skin. Her doctor had not heard of that. She needed some steriods because it had gone on so long, but once the eczema gone crazy was under control, the solution was as simple as taking allergy pills, like claritin or zyrtec.
If I were you, I would try to see a dermatologist. They are the masters of skin treatments, and if they don’t know the answer, they can probably find it sooner than an endo or pcp can.
Good advice, but she should probably verify with a dermatologist that is the diagnosis first.
Could you better describe the rash? I’d like to think that if it was cellulitis that a doctor would’ve caught that but, you never know. The symptoms you describe can also be those of cellulitis which needs antibiotics to be cured.
I know it’s another Dr but I would do like the others here said. I would go to a dermanatoligist just to make sure and get what he recomands for it.
Look into Psorasis too. My husband gets a patch on his hand that sounds exactly as you have described, but it is ONLY during the summer when he sweats a lot and is hot and humid. We tried about a bizillion creams and we’ve found that keeping it dry and using cold water to wash it works well. The other thing he does which I have no idea if it is a good idea or not is, he puts antiperspirant around his wrist, so the sweat doesn’t produce there and that helps keep his hand dry. He wouldn’t put it right ON the rashy part but around it seems to help. Good luck. Let us know what you find.
Lotsofshots - Never be embarassed for having Diabetes and not knowing how to manage well. Your healthcare team’s responsibility is to give you info on how to live with this disease and they dropped the ball.
Need a picture. Anyting on the feet of a diabetic can be serious. Its summer and hot and your exercising so some sort of fungus is probable, however once the skin is open it can be other things.
Immaculate hygiene, wash and bleach your sock and alternate running shoes to make sure there clean and dry.
when you call the dermo tomorrow, don’t be surprised if they give you an appointment in the next century. ask to be put on the list for when people cancel their appointments. If it is cellulitis, it can get extremely ugly very quick. but I thought cellulitis was accompanied by itching. let us know what happens.
