I am suffering so incredibly bad, I feel like a truck has run over me, and I have lightning in my feet, and hands! I am at a total loss at what to do now, I can barely walk or even make it from the chair to the bathroom! I think I am just giving up, totally lost
I'm sorry to hear that the pain is so bad. I think some people find that as they bring their blood sugar under control and they start to heal, the pain gets worse. Perhaps this is part of the healing process. Please, stay committed. I know it hurts. But keep your blood sugar under control and you will get through this. Perhaps your doctor can offer some additional treatments. Hopefully, others here can suggest some home remedies to help.
I don't think I have pain quite like you, but I have had some numbness and tingling, stabbing pains and burning sensations in my feet and legs. A few things you might try which I have found worked....a warm bath. Not a hot one, but warm. It's relaxing and the warm water around my feet and legs was soothing. A walk. I know you said it's difficult, but get yourself a new pair of walking sneakers with a large toe-box so your toes have room to move. And, get some diabetic socks that don't cut off your circulation and let your feet breath. Get the shoes and the socks on and take a walk. You need to get the circulation flowing to your feet and legs. Even if the walk is only a few minutes, it's better than nothing. try to lengthen it every day until you are walking a half hour. Again, not to sound like a broken record along with everyone else on this site, get your blood sugar down to as near normal as possible. Whenever I start to feel the tingling in my right foot, I know I need to check my blood sugar. Sure enough, it's usually starting to creep up over 150. I used to be able to tolerate high blood sugar and I didn't bother me at all but not any more.
If all else fails, see your doctor. He or she may be able to prescribe something which will sooth the nerves in your feet so they won't be firing off painful sensations that have no basis in fact. I have had a couple of prescriptions before. I found Neurontin to be somewhat helpful. The thing that helps me the most, though, is to check my blood sugar and bring it down and get a little excercise. Best of luck with it. I hope you are able to find some relief.
Hello Debroxner:
I have neuropathy and deal with it by taking a warm shower which brings some relief and using the treadmill
which also brings relief but both are not cures. Doctor tells me the bg level control is the key to staving off the pain and advancement of the problem. Not so sure he's right since mine got worse the better I controlled my bg levels but my endo also said the same thing, that i takes time. Time being months not weeks. The advice from my diabetes ed. is to see a neurologist. I've never seen one but made an appointment. Their office tells me they can treat neuropathy, have you seen one?
