September is approaching and across the US numerous walks and diabetes fundraising events are going to be taking place.
I thought of starting this topic, in case you have a team (or, even more so, if you DON’T have one) and want to find peers to walk with, run with, bike with, team up with, etc.
How about Canada, UK, Australia, the rest of the world? Any upcoming walks and fundraisers that you are participating on?
I’m getting a team together for the JDRF in Birmingham at the end of October. I’m a little dissapointed in our local JDRF though. They are hard to get in touch with and don’t return phone calls!
I am actually an intern for the ADA. i am a special event coordinator, and I am currently working on the step out walks for the detroit, lansing, and ann arbor locations in michigan and I am trying to help out the toledo walk too…there is one walk per each saturday in october, the detroit event will be held at the zoo on the 13th, ann arbor I think is the 20th at U of M stadium, toledo will be at the botanical garden
I just participated in the JDRF Ride To Cure Diabetes in Whitefish, MT. What an awesome experience. I’m pretty new to cycling and to diabetes. My son was diagnosed just over a year ago. The ride was a real test of endurance, but I was able to finish it.
The best part was talking to so many other people who “get it”. Not having to explain the difference between Type 1 and Type 2. Being able to ask people what their A1C number is. Sharing war stories with other parents of kids with Type 1.
I’d highly recommend getting involved in any diabetes fund raising event. The people you meet are worth it.
I’m organizing a charity epicurean event called “Spirited Cuisine”. I was working on an interesting project with a friend where i’d cook up a new dessert using a liquor that my friend recommended. We would then blog about it in our respective blogs. After my diagnosis, I haven’t had time to continue the project. So, i’m holding a charity event for fellow bloggers in Pittsburgh in September where i’ll make them liquor based desserts, and they’ll contribute to the ADA. (the series of desserts that i’ve concocted and photographs are at http://srirambala.com/?cat=20 )
Our family has done many JDRF Walks in the past and had a lot of fun! We are doing one this month in California for the JDRF as well as walking a “Step Out” for the ADA in October. Keep up the good work it is so nice to hear from others working so hard to make things better for all of us with diabetes.
We are hoping to have a HUGE delegation of walkers on Team DiMarco this year! The Welland (Ontario, Canada) Walk to Cure Diabetes is fairly young, this is the third year. Last year, our family and friends raised $650.00. Amazing!
This year, we are aiming for $1000.00.

Hello,
My family and I will be walking in the JDRF Ontario,Ca walk for a Cure. My daughter was diagnosed September 16,2006…Going on 1 year, this will be our 3rd walk. This walk we are putting on a benefit concert at a local sportsbar to raise money for our walk. They have agreed to give us all of the cover charges that come in. That will be next Saturday. Team ALL-4-ALYSSA
I’m doing a walk on October 6th (Riley’s 2 year anniversary of his diagnosis) to raise money for The Iacocca Foundation. This is a walk that I organize all on my own. The walk raised $3000 last year and I’m aiming for $5000 this year.
I am participating in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes in Nashville TN on September 29th. It’s the first time I’ve ever been involved in anything like this, so I am a little nervous. But that’s okay. I am looking forward to it!

I worked at the on-site accounting office last year and probably will do it again this year.
I’m not walking anywhere, but I just might go swimming. Risden’s Beach (704 Ocean Ave, Pt Pleasant Beach, NJ) will donate their net proceeds from Sunday, Sept 9 to the JDRF.
