Why Am I Here? Not Because of Me Anymore


Today is the first day of Diabetes Blog Week. There is a new topic everyday, today’s topic is “Message Monday.” I feel bad because today has been a nightmare, but it is important for me to take part in this. I encourage everyone to read through the posts and consider taking part.

So why did I come here? I guess you would say “it is complicated.” I originally started reading and becoming active the on-line community because I thought that it was critical to helping myself. And in the end that was true. I learned a lot from others and eventually learned to share with others. I attained better control of my diabetes and achieve (some level) of peace with my diabetes. But over time things changed. I changed. It became more than just peer to peer support. Eventually it became important to try to effect change.

Thank you for all you do for T2s Brian. It is wonderful to have a ‘voice’ like yours to defend us against all insults and to explain things to us.

While I hope that you find the support YOU need - I do want to say thank you. Your writing has certainly educated and inspired me. I certainly felt the shame you so eloquently described in your blog - and I still do, sometimes. Thank you for doing what you do!

Since you asked. I am a non insulin dependant t2 on diet and Exercise only.
Which is not an insignificant portion of the community, and now with the new Prediabetics it will only grow. I would suggest that you and this site would concentrate more on this sector which may need no or minimal medication.
