Women problems and diabetes.....LOVELY

I have unfortunately had extremely high sugars the past two weeks. I think I have a bacterial infection, fun fun. I have a doc appt this afternoon. I get them all of the time and I get this great rash on my hip with them as well. I do everything that they tell you to do, cotton underwear, no thongs (Thank God) etc… I am praying that with the pump my sugars will get under control and these infections will stop. I also think the higher sugars coincide with that time of the month. Like the monthly FUN doesn’t suck on its own - I need that combined with diabetes, an infection and a rash. I start my Omnipod next Thurs. so hopefully by then I have this whole thing managed. The great joy of being a diabetic woman. I apologize to the men out there that did not realize what this post was going to contain.

I go through this every month with the exception of infections. I have to basal profiles on my pump each for 2 weeks. About 2 weeks after my period my BG starts to rise and I have to start adjusting. About 7 days before my period I produce ketones regardless of my BG reading and have to take insulin bolus and eat every 4 hours around the clock to fend them off. I Drink about 2/12 liters of water everyday anyway and have tried increasing that for that time but it makes no difference only the 4 hour schedule helps. What I think is the rise in progesterone a few days before your period slows your digestion as well as causes insulin resistance it really sucks.

I know it is hard but hang in there  your not alone.
Be well and be loved

As far as infections go (if you’re talking yeast), it depends on your doc, but my doc said it’s more an issue of autoimmune diseases making you more susceptible to feminine infection, rather than an issue of your glucose control. I got them just as frequently when my A1c came into a normal range. So he put me on an aggressive diflucan regimen (one pill per week) for six months. Now I just take one pill every 6 weeks or so and have reduced my infections from once a month to once every blue moon. There is the risk that you could build up an immunity to any treatment doing it this way, but what it did for me is just what he told me it would - allow my body substantial time BETWEEN infections to build up a reasonable resistance to the yeast. And when I do get an infection, I hit it with a diflucan every 2-3 days and an Rx-strength monostat-style cream as well. It has changed my feminine health life.
