Worked hard to get where I am

Diabetes is not going to go away. I have had diabetes for almost 5 years now and I have tried to make it go away. I started with insulin 2 days after diagnosis. I was told 2 shots aday and test BG 6-8 x aday. I refused to do it myself and My family did it for me. That first year I lost my pets( were old and died). I was told not to eat lots of foods I really liked.(I wasn’t even allowed a birthday cake, which I absolutely LOVED!!). I was told to limit my exercise to 10min walks a day only. I lost my job. I found out good friends weren’t who they used to be. I love gardening and we didn’t even plant a garden that year. I was losing lots that year.Going to the Dr. every 3 months (2.5 hour drive there) was not fun. I fell into depression for afew months and couldn’t see light at the end of tunnel. I then decided to get back everything I could to get my life back to normal again. My successes have been, I have LOTS of animals I am now off my insulin (and taking 2 pills a day instead) I am running as much as I want and biking. and LOTS of walks. I eat quite abit (all healthy food and I have learned to carb count) I can have a birthday cake now ( I have to get permission from my Dr. so ha can do the medication counting for me). We have planted a garden and made it bigger. I got my poking fingers down to 2x a day and if needed 3x. I now drive 10min. to my Dr. and only see him 2x a year. As for my friends I have got friends who will listen and support me with this diabetes and are helping me with finding me work.(I clean houses for most of them now). I am getting pretty content with my life. This may not go away but I am learning to be content with it. I have worked hard to get to where I am today. Life is looking good.
