Kennedy is away on a three day youth retreat trip, no cell phone reception, so I am a little freaking out here. I can call in to the youth director here and there to have him check on her now and then, but this is the first time kennedy has done all of her stuff by herself for three straight days.
I usually do her night time dex alarms and she is a deep sleeper. So I told her to find out who is a light sleeper close to wake her up if her dex alarms to check it.
Her settings are off too, chasing highs for the last week with puberty stuff and dialing up her basal, but I think its still not enough.
She said " mom don't worry" I know how to be a diabetic"
How have dmom's gotten through this transition!??
4 years till college!!
Natalie, she will be fine.
My mom went through the same, and i admire her for that, but at Kennedys age i started taking on responsibilities, and i am still alive.
it might not go exactly as you would expect it or as smoothly as you would do it, but for three days that is absolutely fine.
She obviously knows where she is going and what she is getting herself into, and shell come out of that camp without ride to the hospital, believe me.
And that might sound not so cool, but right now its not her goal to have perfect bgs or to adjust her basal while she is away, but just to keep the things you have arranged for her going and flowing.
this is the way i also got into my own D-management, by stepping into it step by step, not with the goal of having perfect bgs but with the goal to come out of it, doing it all by myself and telling me at the end of the 3 days: well done, no emergencies.
it is important for your daughter and you that she is staring to take on responsibilities and also doing it on her own for a few days, so that she is ready for college in 4 years.
i am 18 now and do it all on my own, so the plan mom went through with me worked out, and my mom can be proud of herself for getting me ready for this time, and i really know she went through the same. but at the end, every bird is going to fly away eventually, and sometimes they crash, but they always end up flying again.
good luck to you and kennedy
