10 Years and Counting!

So today is my ten year diagnosisaversary! (or some other fake word like that) I can't even believe it, and yet at the same time I can't really remember not being diabetic anymore. I'd say, for me, on the whole it has enhanced my life. Yes, managing it can be a huge pain and there are times when it seems like the worst thing there is, but in reality this is hardly the case. It has encouraged (forced) me to lead a healthy lifestyle, to watch what I eat, exercise regularly and be super conscious of everything I do with and to my body. It makes me grateful to be as healthy as I am knowing that there are plenty of people of all ages who are living with much more difficult conditions and persevering. I don't always like having it, but I'd be remiss to not give it some credit for keeping me in check, both physically and mentally. And that's all not to mention how lucky we are to be living in a time when technology for diabetics is advancing all the time: there are 5 million different BG meters on the market, many many pumps, CGMs, etc, and these things are always improving.

I guess this post is just a reminder that for every time having diabetes sucks, there's ten more times where it's just another part of life and a quick reminder to be grateful for how (relatively) easy it is to be healthy and happy managing this thing. Here's to 10 years and many more!

good for you, your positive attitude doesn't hurt either. so all in how you look at things. heres to many many more happy healthy years!

thanks Markeezy for that positive outlook, I to believe that, it has made my family healthy for it also. My boys 28, and twins 23 have never stepped into a McDonalds. woo hook. The only thing that really frustrates me is that ppl assume that you have diabetes because of a lifestyle and can be reversed, (all the info out there) and the other is any complication I get, i,e eyes, cramps, irritable anything is always blamed on Diabetes.
There are many ppl that get complications that are not diabetic. I am type 1 have been for 13 years, I am an active person minus a year due to pain all over my body (never damage) but all in all it has as you helped me keep in check. Again thanks for posting it reconnects me to what is important and the rest not as important.
keep up the positive tones and pass on pass on pass on.

Congrats Markeeezy!
I am coming up on 18 years this summer, and have lived longer with the disease than without, so I agree that it is often hard to remember/recall what life without diabetes was even like.
That being said, I completely agree with you that despite the ups and downs that come along with diabetes, it has really shaped my life positively, and I live a very healthy lifestyle because of it.
Congratulations again, and a tip of my hat on another 10 healthy years (and more) to you!!

Congratz Markeeezy! Keep up the great work. Getting close to rolling over 40 years for me. Good control is never wasted. Hope your next 30+ are good for you.

Thanks Bradford! It’s great to have the support and advice of all the people here. Makes it that much easier to take control!

And congrats on your 18!

Wow, that’s great, Scott. Good for you! I’m looking forward to living many many more years being the boss of my health!

Thanks! It’s important to always keep your chin up, even in the worst, can’t get your sugar down from the 300s for hours times. And it helps to have a great support network at home and here on TuD.

 glad I could help! Attitude is half the battle, even though it is tough not to get annoyed when people assume all diabetes is the same. I just try and remember that they don’t know any better and aren’t trying to cause any harm, and if anything maybe I can help educate them a bit!

for me 10 years is nothing. i've been t1 for 76+ years. can you imagine what i went through with all the advances today compared to years ago.glass serynges...benedict solution...no testing meters...etc...
