I am a fairly new insulin user. The other night when I checked my BG at bedtime it was 70. I thought this was to low to go to sleep with so I had snack to raise it, Did I do the right thing. How low can someone be at bedtime before taking action.
Everyone is different. My BG drops if I lie down - most of my serious lows have happened while sleeping. As soon as I get up, BG goes up. I won’t nap or go to bed 90 or under without a small protein/fatty snack because I know I’ll be going low in a couple of hours. During the day I like being between 80-90 but don’t correct unless I’m 65 or under, or planning to drive (need to be at least 80).
How did it go the other night when you had a snack? If it ain’t broke…
I measure in mmols, but am coming to realise that 70 would be too low. You did exactly the right thing. I do not know if you take a night time insulin (so many people with diabetes - so many regimes!), but I would also not take insulin that night, or at least at a reduced rate.
I regularly have a snack before bed since I am prone to night time hypos. I find if it is a way above the norm then I am safe, and still wake with a decent number.
