Adequate number of calories without increasing number of carbs
Cornerstone, welcome to the community. Nuts, especially Almonds and chopped walnuts that can be bought in bulk at the big box membership stores, have a very high Calorie to Carb ratio. 1/4 cup is about 6 grams of carbs for 200 calories. Nuts are always a quick way to build calories while watching carbs as you can easily eat 800 calories a day, just in nuts.
Cashews and chocolate covered macadamia nuts!!!
For me, crunch is an essential food group, but most food that provides this key nutritional element comprises things like crackers, chips of myriad sorts, things I don’t like anyway (Cheese Doodles), and the like, all rich in corn syrup and starch-based BG explosives. Thus, yes, NUTS!!! Which can contain some carbs but nothing like as much as that other stuff and I mostly don’t bother bolusing for 'em (except when I was trying to make automode in the 670G work, and was grubbing for any gram of carb I could declare). The problem of course is the other thing you point out: they can be as bad as the rest of the crunch food group when it comes to calories. Which may explain why I have such a hard time losing weight? Sigh. I wonder if TANSTAAFL should be in our Diabetes Terminology list…
I can fill up on fats. Like butter, olive oil, avocados, cheese and heavy cream.
