Does anyone have any low carb easy snack ideas? What do you buy at the store when you want snack foods? I’ve been munching on granola lately, but I want something else. Trying to lose more weight
We're all different, Raven, and you look much younger than me, so you have a "better" metabolism. For me, I don't snack at all; if I did I would gain weight. It's one of those habits that can be hard to break but I'm now used to it and eat three good meals a day without any urge to eat anything in between. As for granola: Granola, fruit and yogurt used to be my favorite breakfast; now it's just impossible for me because it's too high carb. The closest I get is fruit salad (heavy on the berries) with greek yogurt and nuts for that granola-ish crunch. That's one of my lunch options.
I like nuts for snacks. I eat 1-2 ounces of of almonds, macadamia nuts, cashews, filberts, and walnuts. Mixed nuts are good as well. It's a good idea to weigh the portions and not just eat from the large container. Nuts are low carb, 4-6 grams of carbs per ounce. The fat and protein satiate. They're portable and easily packed in a zip-lock bag. Best of all, I've found them easy to dose insulin for great post-snack BGs. A measured snack of nuts is compatible with weight loss; just resist over-doing it!
Nuts and cheese are my go-to snacks. Cheese is such a great food, it’s a whole culinary world of its own to explore and never get tired of. Granola wouldn’t be a good option for my BG-wise
Mine is simple, there are a little bit of calories and fat on 1 item, I have this thing for peanut butter and celery. Now peanut butter is the calorie, but you have to use one that is just peanuts and salt (laura scudders)so it has no carbs, celery is what I learned when I got diagnosed 36 years ago, they called it a freebie. There is only one problem with this. you have to stir the peanut butter when you buy it, then refrigerate it. only takes a few minutes, but It is well worth it. I really hope you find a snack food you like. (Good Luck)
At the risk of sounding like I'm on a soapbox (well, Ok, I guess I am!) I just saw a documentary on Link TV about obesity worldwide and it talked about one of the key issues is thinking that we need extra meals, which we call "snacks". The food industry, of course, caters to this idea with multiple options!
I eat pickles by the jar full :P I kid - kind of. I really do love pickles for when I'm feeling snacky. Olives, too. Maybe a bit of cheese. Hummus, too.
I was thinking of asking people's go to foods when feeling hungry with a high blood sugar. This is a close match I guess I have to second the Nut's and cheese. Cheese being a go to when High BG is in effect. Nuts are a pretty healthy food nutrition wise especially Pistachios but they do have some carbs but usually under 10g per serving I think peanuts clock in at around 7carb. I never really accounted carbs for pistachios because the expense usually curbs my desire.
Pistachios and Macadamias from what I hear are some of the more nutritious in terms of antioxidants and other beneficial things. Sugar free Gelatin maybe good even without floating veggies. Ooh Carrots are yummy too. Gladly I don't have any food allergies. I'd rather be a diabetic than have to risk touching or eating peanuts if allergic. I use the peanuts cap as my serving size to measure :) how many calories get burned removing peanuts from the shells? I prefer mine with the skins on.
Found some good info on health benefits of nuts in following link.

Peanuts are a legume, not nuts. They are quite carb rich, I certainly can't eat them.
There is a list of snack ideas on here, Richard posts it from time to time.
Raw veggies are great, cucumbers, celery, lettuce, tomato and so on.. pickle too, I haven't had them for a while, now I will have to buy some, I love the persian cucumbers. I have santa cruz crunchy peanut butter on green peppers sometimes for brunch/breakfast- it's so fast and easy and it keeps me going for hours. Some others I have are raw nuts, cheese & chia and flax seed oatmeal. I always bolus a little for my snacks, it's a rare time I have one without unless I'm really active, then I can eat a small low carb meal with no bolus sometimes.

I’m eating fruit and Greek yogurt this morning! Sounds soooo yummy. Thanks!
Thanks for that link! Some good ideas on there
Just discovered cinnamon flavored almonds (4 grams a pack) in the supermarket. They also have vanilla flavored, sunflower seeds (practically free because you subtract the fiber from the carbs); sunflower seeds and pistachio nuts you can find flavored, chili flavor, etc. cheese (but it's not low fat). There are a lot of low carb snacks parents give their diabetic children (who are not on a diet). I would look up those. There are frozen pies made with cool whip and sugar free jello; I have filled a 4 gram wafer cone with a few chopped strawberries mixed with whipped cream (aerosol can, low carb) and frozen it. Tastes like ice cream. Check out hungrygirl.com. She has tons of low calorie (a lot low to moderate carbs 15 grams or so) snacks. She is quite inventive. You will find all you need there. However, not all of these snacks are healthy. A lot of her recipes are basically dietetic, lower carb versions of junk food. As long as you eat healthy most of the time, I don't see the harm in indulging.
Cheese, nuts, cheese, pickles, or cheese. :)
I like the low glycemic Clif Mojo bars–tasty and satisfying.
