Animas Ping

So I’ve been wearing my Ping for a month or so now, and so far I really like it. The screen is much brighter than my last Animas pump, so that’s a big bonus. I really like the remote that is hooked up directly to the glucose monitor. I use that a lot. What I find I don’t use at all is the food data list. I have been carbo counting for so long I can do it much quicker in my head. Also, I don’t frequent the fast food places that Animas put in the system, so it is not of much use to me. Also, I have had low batteries twice so far. I don’t know if that was a fluke, or the pump is a battery sucker. If this one runs down quickly, I know it is the pump. I have always found the batteries to last for quite some time, so this was a surprise for me. Overall though, I give this pump two thumbs up:)

I got trained this morning, and have been wearing my pump for about 12 hours! I was really nervous (it’s my first pump), but it all went really well–I was pleasantly surprised by how easy/painless inserting the infusion set was. The meter/remote is also a definite plus, really handy handy to be able to test your blood sugar and do a bolus all in one go on it. I don’t have too much to say about it yet, right now I’m just finding the pump menus a little unintuitive to use. For instance in most screens you can’t go from the top item to the bottom by scrolling up, which you can do on the pump, which makes some things kind of annoying to go through. Another thing I’m not too fond of is when you use the ezcarb calculator and put it your carbs and blood sugar, instead of defaulting to the amount of insulin it calculates for you, it defaults to zero. I heard this is a safety feature, but a little annoying. These are pretty little things though, and I’m sure I’ll get used to them. I’ll try and post some more feedback once I’ve used it for a bit longer!

Sorry to hear you are upset. In May am sure the person you talked to didn’t even know about the new Ping. Even if they did know, by law they could not tell you of a new product that had not been approved my the FDA.

I’m going to be getting my Ping next Wednesday. I haven’t done a pump training class, yet, but I’ve been doing a carb counting/injection every time I eat insulin regime for about four years now. I’m excited and little nervous.
